Hi everybody, I'm new to the forum.
I've been talking to the CHP and I'm a little surprised by some of this info I got. They they'll tell me if they can conduct an Admistrative Review or if they need to conduct an actual BIT inspection. If they do the Admin Review, no vehicles or records will be inspected, it will not result in prorating of the inspection fee, and accepting that review means we agree to random, unannounced inspections by them.
We've gone through a BIT inspection before and never heard of the Admin Review. Do you guys know any more about this and those random inspections? We keep our records as good as we can but random inspections seem to be a hassle.
Also do we need to report trucks that are leased on to us? We have 2 of our own and 3 OPs leased on. I thought they review only whats owned by the compay. It makes sense since we don't maintain the OPs trucks but I can see why they might want to review those records when they are working our authority.
I'm trying to gather info before I go the CHP kind of clueless on some of this, appreciate all the help!
Random unknown inspections from the CHP?

during my 4 year period of going it on my own I had 3 audits by 3 different agency's: 1 random admin inspection by dot, (full records comprehensive insp) notice was on a thur.. audit was following tues.
other audits: IRP audit.
then IFTA audit.. -
I don't know -- I've never heard of the random inspection. At my last BIT they said they were making some changes to the program and that the frequency of inspections would become based on your FMCSA ISS score:
Is yours high? (range is 0-100, lower is better)
I can't really see a random inspection working out -- I could be across the country when they come knocking...
But I have had pretty good luck getting questions answered by the Sacramento CHP commercial division:

The basics are for public use (except hazmat), the ISS score is private -- only the carrier and DOT can see it.
They idea is pretty much the same, but the ISS score is 1 number that determines how often you should be pulled in/inspected at scales.bigrigrunner Thanks this.
