So I am wrapping up Diesel Driving Academy and would like to say thanks to AT for unknowingly talking me into W/S. Just reading the threads all of you seem very happy so I hope for the same experience. I get my CDL and graduate next Thursday and will be in Conover if all goes as planned before that following Monday. I would appreciate any advice anyone out of the Conover terminal or anyone else could give me. Thanks in advance.

First thing Invest In a Rand McNally GPS, you'll need it for the LTL loads. You can do without it, but it'll make your life 1000times easyer.

At orientation take every opertunity to practice, after class at night, and on the weekend. Practice your shifting (the way the show you) and backing.

I'm sure I'll think of more stuff, i'll post more things but thats a start.

Good Luck on your CDL test!

My only issue will be hometime. Since they make you leave the truck at the terminal and I "live" in Shreveport and they don't really go anywhere close other than to Myrtle. That's almost 400 miles away. I am really glad I get to take my co-pilot too, a full blood APBT named Gixxer. How much to those GPS' normally cost and where is the best place to pick one up?

like $400-$500 you can get them at any big Truck Stop:

    Loves
    TA
    Petro
    Pilot
    Flying J
    Wilco
    etc...

Ya the leaving the truck at the terminal part, kinda sucks but It's well worth it to work for a good company IMO

You will be better off moving closer to your terminal bro cuz think about it 400 miles at car speed thats still a 6hr drive plus fuel or if you take a bus so you can sleep but that will get old soon.Anyway good luck in your new journey and dont get no tickets!

Yea it sucks being far away but I'll do what I have to to get my foot in the door. Just sent off my dd-214 so probably monday I should get a call from safety and then get my bus info. Also just found out I take my cdl test tuesday at 11:15 am so kinda nervous about that. Looking forward to seeing you all on the road!
