I have a dewalt electric grease gun to grease truck, but for 5th wheel a tube of grease spread on lower to half way up works good.

Just buy those special 5th wheel grease packs and slip a couple on weekly.

Those packs are very expensive by volume. Cheaper to buy a grease gun and reload it for $4 bucks, lasts about 18 5th wheels.

Just buy the tubes. No grease gun required. Open both ends and tap the tube against 5th wheel and the grease will come out in small blobs. Takes about 30 seconds. Done.

I either do what @4wayflashers said above, or if I can get a good deal on grease in the little cans just get a latex glove on, take it out of the can and smear it on your fifth wheel. Take the glove off and put it in the empty can and throw away.

Also for shop greasing I have a Lincoln pneumatic, it's awesome, and I've seen many friends cordless grease guns die while my air operated one keeps on pumpin. Easy enough to run off a truck too.

Milwaukee makes a real nice battery grease gun, best one I have used and I have used a lot of different kinds around the shop, they are pricey, but if u use them a lot they are worth it.

    1) Buy tube of grease ( Like $2 ).
    2) Find stick or something.
    3) Approach 5th wheel ( I like to approach it from the sides of the truck at a 90 degree angle ).
    4) Open tube of grease ( save plastic cap, this is very important ).
    5) Using stick, take grease from tube, smear on 5th wheel ( It's best to have gloves on ).
    6) The tap, tap, tap method can be used to get grease from tube, but you still need stick or find someone's small dog, and smear.
    7) Re-apply cap to unused portion of tube, and save for later ( Like putting out a joint ).

Scraping of the nasty burnt grease and debris can also be done at this time and put either on the small dog or in a bag.

    Grubby Thanks this.

Grease the bolster plate on the trailer, not your 5th wheel and the grease will stay where it’s needed. You’ll use a lot less grease too.

I just go under with a grease gun and paint very thin stripes radiating out from the king pin starting about 6 inches away. Then glob some on the kingpin itself.
