I'm a fifteen year recruiter, new to the trucking industry and I'm seeing some issues I haven't seen in my career. I have some ideas, but I'm hitting walls and REALLY need some good feedback from drivers. If you'd put in your two cents, I would greatly appreciate it.
Let's assume for the sake of this conversation that "not enough information" or typical recruiter shadiness isn't the problem.
It's clear to me that there are a lot of truckers looking for work, and a lot of companies looking for drivers. But putting the two together is the challenge. Also, the amount of information that carriers need to begin the process is just ridiculous.
I can find plenty of driver resumes. And contact by phone, email and text, and get solid responsiveness from drivers. But when it gets to the step of getting a driver to pull a trigger (any trigger) they almost always stop.
So, email exchange, text exchange, whatever, question, answer, question, answer, everything seems good. Great, now I need your information to get to the carrier....and crickets.
Why do drivers talk, chat, email, etc and then stop when it comes time to fill out an application?
Is it just a matter of the effort? It seems like the only way to actually get through that piece of the process is to do it over the phone, and even then drivers back off fast.
I know most drivers like to keep an ear out for what's out there, but is this a case of "shopping" and when it comes time, they're just not serious about a move? Or is it that it's so easy for drivers to get another job, that if the circumstances of the moment aren't just right at that moment, it's not worth the effort?
What can I do to actually get drivers to fill out an application on a website? Would doing it by text, or phone with an automated system, or even an android/iphone app make it more appealing?
I'm sort of flabbergasted....Any thoughts, feedback?
EDIT:
Thanks so much for the responses. This is exactly the sort of information I was looking for. I'll be responding over the course of the day, but it will take a while!

Filling out driver applications can be a major chore for some people, especially the ones who change jobs every year. Also trying to list any/all accidents or tickets that may or may not be on their record. I suspect that could be a big reason.
Another possible scenario is the driver talked to you, got the all the typical information, then came on this forum and asked "anybody know anything about company x?"
Then we all respond with "stay away from them!" Lol, that's kind of a joke but not really. It happens all the time. -
Use intelliapp if you're not doing so already. Driver can put his info in once and it retains it for future applications to other companies. It takes about 5 minutes to submit an application with the auto-fill feature.

There's the 'driver pulse " app that let me see the application process and I'm able to communicate to my recruiter and summit documents and sign documents on.
It just makes it easier instead of typing the who information in, especially on a mobile phone. -

Thanks! I'll take a hard look at it, if it will integrate with a couple systems, that may be the best solution! I appreciate it!

I'm sorry, I only read the title and the opening part of the post. That was really inconsiderate of me.
Anyways, if you've ever filled out a whole lot of applications, you can understand why drivers might not want to go through it yet again for another company.Last edited: Nov 3, 2016
