We had them here for like two months a long time ago. They got rid of all of them because you couldn’t prove the owner was actually the one driving the car.

That sure doesn’t stop the city of Baltimore from not only having them all over the place, but shortening the yellow times at the intersections that have them so they bring more revenue.

But, cameras are all about safety.

FYI for anyone interested in this. I just called Sacramento red light camera division. I gave the date and time of my red light picture as I remembered it. He put me on hold, went and looked it up, and got back to me.

Apparently I was all the way into the intersection. It was my trailer that crossed after the red light. Thus causing the camera flash. Just like I thought, your trailer can set it off. No violation.

So I’m fine. What a relief!

Cities in Texas started taking down their red light cameras because the people that received the tickets started taking the city to court to fight the ticket. A police officer would show up in traffic court but the person would argue that the camera had to be in court because they had the right to face their accuser. Judges started dismissing the tickets.

I know this is an old thread, but I was nailed by one of these camera's in the Sacramento area about six months ago. Went back and recorded the red light traffic camera's YELLOW light
timing, which gave a driver only 3.2 seconds to stop at the crossing. I searched for professional safety information in regards as to what the recommended yellow light timing at the intersection
    should have been.

In a 40 MPH zone, on an expressway, the professionals posted that it _should_ be timed at 3.7 to 4.1 seconds on a yellow light. I don't speed and was not speeding at all at the time. So I should have been allowed another 0.5 seconds, at the least, in which I could and would have been able to stop safely.

Fine: $500.00 dollars, and $62.00 USD for court administraing costs, so yeah I fought it, but lost, since these SCAM devices are revenue generators, not for safety at all. 1 point on record too.

Did another search and found out that Stockton, CA shut these red-light scameras down, as
there were fatalities, lawsuits, and lots of rear-end accidents, since, of course as everyone tailgates these days, it would seem, (not myself) but thats another kettle of fish to fry.

Lesson learned: drive MUCH _slower_ then the posted speed limit when you are in such an area.

This City is in Los Angeles County and removed them. What the article doesn't mention is there was a citation issued to a retired engineer, who had other retired engineer friends. They found the yellows were shorter at the Red Light Camera intersections, and won in court. The City was forced to change them, and no surprise, the Red Light Cameras would cost the City money.

No More Cameras at Stoplights in the City

Yeap! Its all about "profit", although technically .gov doesnt engage in profit. They are in the business of using the "laws", fair, rightly or not, to "take" your $$$, one way or another. It is called "wealth transfer"...err, I mean taxes, fees and fines. Unjust or not, .gov always uses "Safety".

If this "red-light" scamera system were applied, using data that was solid proof that it made driver's and pedestrians truely safer, I might support it, but since the yellow light is set too low on these devices, it's a total con/scam. I come to full stops at stop signs, looking to both my sides at least twice, but lots of drivers never hauled Hazmat, something I was doing at 18 years of age.

To the new drivers: back when I was young, there were no Hazmat endorsements, but you had
to be 18 years of age to haul it. Diesel fuel was "combustable" back then as well. Yeah, I'm old.:)
