Gonna have to agree with Cool35 on that. If you need to clear that kind of money then stay where you are. LTL is a good gig, but it takes time to clear that kind of money. I am a city driver and make any where from 650-800 a week after taxes, usually 45-55 hours a week, we do have guys who make well over a 1,000 after taxes

On the extra board I only avereged 800$ a week. A bid is much better average about 1100 a week, its just hard to get a bid.

Reddawaydriver,
How long did it take you to get your bid run? Was the 800 a week take home or gross. I'm going over bills and might be able to make it work. Are you able to make plans if on the extra board? Or am I at their beckon call? I hear it will be mostly nights, which isn't really a problem. Thanks in advance.
Cool35 and ACH, thanks for the input as well. -
It took me about 6 months to get a bid. The take home was usually about 650-800 a week we made it work. Yes you are at their mercy every night except Sunday. But you can usually make plans on Sunday just call central dispatch and ask them if they are gonna need you.

I am also a line driver. I pull in $1400 every two weeks (after taxes and 401k contributions). Like some other guys, I spend a lot of time sitting by the phone, wondering when they are gonna call me in.

I,ve been at reddaway for about 13 months so not that long. Getting a bid all depends on how busy your terminal is, and if they add any new bids. I got lucky and got hired at a good time when we added 4 new bids.I'm out of norcal, and at a union shop. I know down south it gets very busy up till christmas and then slows down until about the end of winter. We have quite a few drivers that prefer the extra board because they make more money. If you're high on the extra board you get called every night, but if you want the night off just pass it on down. Maybe you'll get a bid soon, or some guys I heard took them almost two years. -

Well I don't know if I can take the pay cut and I'm pretty sure my old lady isn't gonna want me waiting by the phone 7 days a week. If I was just starting out or didn't have the bills I have, I'd go for it. That slow down during the winter really worries me. Right now I'm steady all year long. Thanks for the information guys.

Linehaul here. I'm extraboard been here for 5 months. I'm taking home since jun 800-975 weekly, last 2 months it's been 900's. Hopin by bid time in April to have a bid. My term has no daylights so I know when there usaully gonna call which I normally get a call so it ain't that bad for me. Until we get that 15% back in 2015 were gonna not appeal to drivers or they won't make it. It's definitely a hardship til you get that year in.
