I have an odd problem. The outside air temp is 29 degrees. My reefer is set for 35 degrees. However it says the box temp is 19 degrees and the reefer won't stop running. It's in heat mode but no matter how long it runs it says it's 19 degrees inside the box.

I've tired just shutting it down and restarting it. I left it off for about 10 min. When it restarted it said it was 22 degrees inside but then went back down to 19.

I opened the doors and it feels a lot warmer than 19 degrees.

    Does anyone have any ideas??

Temp sensor probably screwed up. This is one you need to take to thermo king or carrier. If it doesn't know the actual temp in the box you will have a claim for sure. 35 sounds like produce temp. Heat it up it will be rotten by the time you attempt delivery. If you can get it transferred to another trailer I would do that asap. Some repair shops have a unit for this purpose.

I would be going directly to repair shop. Not when your eld says you can. Right now.

I don't give a #### what your ELD, logs or whatever says you can or cannot drive.

YOU find a adequate big repair shop for reefer trailers and START MOVING THAT WAY NOW. Nothing scary, but you have to get that trailer to someone with the tools big enough to start fixing it. It's sick. Needs TLC of a kind you cannot brush off for another day.

GET GOING yer late already. Logs be ###### on this one.

Thank you for the reply. I think you may be right . Set for 35 and it's in heat mode but temp keeps dropping, at least it says it is . Down to 17 now.

Luckily it's not produce . Still it's Refrigerated food. I do have another trailer in the yard to move the freight on to. It's just cold and dark out. Was hoping to avoid switching trailers but it's cheaper than a claim or an after hours repair bill

You are fortunate. And yes if you can feel that thing is clearly warmer than 35 you have a real issue here.

It will be a late night for you but you can avoid a real crisis.

There you go. A few hours work shifting to a good trailer makes a happy you. And happy whomever owns that stuff.

You are a awesome driver to be thinking of these things.

Thanks guys. Just wish I had a dock. So it's pallet jack and fork truck from the ground. At least I have a solution. I'll repost when I get it fixed and let you know for sure what the problem was.

Sounds like the chute may have been yanked and fallen or there is something clogging the front intake area. Has a pretrip been ran? Could have a problem with heat mode but if there are physical problems inside the trailer, you’ll have to remove product to correct.

If it was running at 19 f when you open the doors you'd be able to tell it was really cold cause all that frigid air would come out when you opened the back doors and you see how the trailer was frozen inside it its running at 35 f everything should be cool not frozen try getting a proper thermometer put it in the trailer leave it there for 30 minutes and go check the temp. The temp gauge could be faulty or the fridge is running colder than what its set at. either way you'll need an experienced fridge mechanic to fix it pronto if your carrying temp sensitive freight.
