I have 7 months otr but now have been out of a truck for about 7 months. DAC and MVR are perfect. I have been told that I would need a 20 hr refresher course to get hired.

Is that correct and if so what should a 20 hr refresher cost?

Maybe the company who told you that requires it. I've never heard of a 'refresher' Course.

Where have you been ? There have been several posts on refresher courses . It doesn't matter if you had 10 years experience some carriers require a refresher course . It'll cost $1,000 - $3,000 dollars . Not all companies require it . I'd check with smaller companies .

Just put refresher course in search and select search posts to turn up others

I'll be danged, I guess that is what I get for not Investigating, and not paying attention, nor caring what big outfits are suckering drivers into doing these days.
I got away from them (Mega Carriers) as soon as I could, and Believe everyone should. All they do is rob you, and dont even try to make you feel good about it.

    Everett Thanks this.

I talked with Swift and from what the recruiter told me that they don't require a refresher course but that has been a while back. Might try them and see.

Refresher course, what a scam. They make big bucks teaching you how to do something you already know to do.

What he said. Go for the whole school. Try an accredited Community College. They are more respected. Pay less, get more.

    I'd find a different company.

I got back into trucking after leaving in 1997. No "refresher" class needed. Just started to cold call and started running my finger down the phone book locally.

Just start driving around and talking to the locals. Maybe make a trip to the local truck stop and just observe for a day the locals. Yeah, they will be in the way back row where the park the trucks and go home for the weekend.

Swift told me the same thing. No one will let you back in truck without 1 year RECENT experience. Yeah right.

I am now in my own truck and hauling reefer again.
