I got out of driving school in January. Got a job right away with Swift but decided I needed more training. I live in NJ but me and my wife are planning to relocate to Houston this year and I dont know what to say to any potential companys. Or what companys are based out there and hire new grads. Any help would be great.

I also am thinking of going to Texas. The place I live is a dead end place to earn an decent living. Great retirement community, however. Too far from Denver for a lot of companies to want to hire you. Might get involved with the oil industry. I am tired of the winters as well. I think I could get used to the heat a lot better than the cold for sure. Be a change anyway. My excavating business is just at a standstill for a couple years. Wanting to try something different.

    Have a great day!:biggrin_25525:

Bring your excavator along. Texans is part prairie dog; soon's the weather turns nice they start digging everything up.:biggrin_2559:

Gots to warn you about the heat tho. Already going into the 80's (early yet for that) and the ##**!! grass is going nuts. You gonna be mowing the cussed lawn every week at least. Dang humidity will soon make you think you need gills. Washer and dryer is the 2 most important appliances in the house; get gooood ones. Get the best A/C you kin buy for the bedroom, else you could drown during sex.:biggrin_2559:

Yea this Texas heat is an acquired taste. I've always detested cold temperatures and the heat really doesn't bother me. But it will hurt you real bad real quick, just like that cold will. Driving jobs are plentiful here especially in Houston. All major companies have yards and/or a significant freight base there and if they don't have either they more than likely have I-10 included in their freight lanes. No state income tax is a plus as well.

We are also "fixin'" to move to Texas... but my wife is from there so we have been there a lot. She will be going home... I will just be moving again (raised military, in the military... moved a lot!). While looking for companies there, I came across one called Texas Star Express. They have a big Lone Star flag on their trailers. AVOID THEM. All I did was call and try to get more information before I move, and I was given the 3rd degree, treated like I was asking for information on their kids to abduct them or something... I told them based on their treatment of me as a potential hire, there is NO way I would ever work for them. If that is how they treat people just asking for information, God knows how they treat their employees! They put me on a list of "never to hire". I guess asking about pay, etc. was prying too much.

We, too, got tired of the winters up here in Nebraska. Yeah, it gets hot down there, but you can still drive on the roads! I have never heard of I-20 being closed down for days because of heat! AND if it gets too bad, you can always ask for a load headed north in the summer!

After the winter we had up here. I'll welcome the heat. I already know what it's like since my father lives there. One of the reason to go down there is the oil industry. I do have my "N" and "H" endorsements.
