Most folks alive back when Social Security was enacted are no longer with us. What is funny to me is back in the day one thing being debated was SS would NEVER be used for ID purposes. It simply was your proof of compliance with the law and having an account setup. Even the Military used serial numbers back then. Today the military uses your SSAN as a "serial number" and up until the mid-90s my SSAN was also my driver's license number. I would be willing to bet at least a full third of personal checks have the SSAN printed on them. Even the VA requires my last 4 for part of my ID. Ask any military dependant what their sponsors last 4 are, it is printed on the dependant IDs and ALL DEERs access is based off it!
Boy, that ID thing almost 100 years ago went away fast!
Numb Thanks this.
