I stopped at the westbound rest area in Ivy, VA on I-64. I don't remember the exact mile marker but it was between US-29 and I-81. It was early in the morning, got out and had a hard time finding the bathroom. It was behind a hill from where i was. Well, I saw a cat in the bushes. I love cats, so I started meowing at it and talking to it. Then I saw another. And another. And another.

Then I walk into the bathroom, and the attendant said hi to me. I turned around and looked at him, and saw multiple cats curled up on the lawn sleeping. WTF?

I asked him about it, he said it's always like that and that there's a subdivision behind the place and they come there at night. WTF?

Also, the place smelled like cat urine. I wonder why.

Why on earth would a cat want to rest at a rest area?

I'd bet they are hunting something like birds, mice etc. If not somebody's feeding them some catnip or their favorite fish.

The rest area just west of Tuscaloosa AL on I-20 has a cat or two that appear to be right at home.
I'm sure at some point the attendants began feeding them and they just hung around.

Sounds like my neighbor next door. I don't hate cats or animals for that matter but when you start feeding one. Before you know it, the whole pack is wanting to be fed. Which is happening outside my front door.:biggrin_25516:

Sounds like my daughter. She would feel sorry for homeless cats and put food outside the fence in the driveway.
After a while it was like a soup kitchen. One became three or four and they would always show up at meal time.
Well, she moved out to her own place a few months ago and we promptly discontinued the practice.
They came around for a few days, and gradually, one by one, they just quit showing up.

Here's a thought! Quit feeding those darn illegal aliens and maybe they'll quit coming around too!!!

Probably looking for lizards. Lot(s of) Lizards.:biggrin_2559:

Don't know why, but this reminds me of the time I was shopping for a new refrigerator. The salesman was showing me all the brands and explaining their differences and singing their praises.

We went through several different brands, then came to a Westinghouse. He opened the door, and there was a rabbit just sitting inside the refrigerator. Startled the heck out of both of us!

The salesman asked, (I think more to himself than anyone else,) "Now what the hell is THAT doing in there."

To my intense surprise, the rabbit looked at him without blinking, and replied,

"IT'S A WESTINGHOUSE, STUPID. I'm tiwed and just westing."

Years ago I lived next to a guy who had the same deal going on with his daughter. The day she moved out he came over and asked if i wanted to have some fun. He took me over to his back porch and we waited for the herd, gagle, group, whatever to show up while we downed a few brews. About an hour later they knew it was chow time and he threw some food to them at the bottom of the five stair porch. They all started chowin down and he took 3 packs of firecrackers that he had already tied together out of his pocket, lit them and threw them about 10 feet to the right of the cats. They kept eating for about 5 more seconds then everything started poppin. I never saw 20 cats disappear so fast or jump so high before or since. They never even came back into the area, let alone his yard, again!:biggrin_25514:We both laughed till it hurt!
