That sounds a bit idealistic, but good luck. You'll find a world dominated by bad foreign drivers. Just giving a dose of reality.

Well, nobody here will squelch your enthusiasm, much needed when doing an about face in professions. 1st, I too want to thank you for your service helping people, at their worst. You won't find that in trucking, especially today with cell phones, we've become faceless nobodies that can't interact socially if their life depended on it. I think you will be sorely disappointed and could be a real bummer for you, seeing the countless wonders you emergency personnel do, don't cap that off with a thankless trucking job. We need you more for what you are trained for, please, reconsider.

As of 2023 when I was briefly there:

▪︎ Freightliners and Internationals. Every one they tried to assign me had over 400k miles on it, closer to 500k. That's why I left.

▪︎ No, yes and no. Inverters are pretty standard across companies these days. Fridges and APU's, not so much. To PTL's credit, they remove the cabinet with a slot for the manufacturers fridge that's normally included with the trucks, and they anchor a strap to the floor that you can use to secure your own fridge. The space is big enough for a dorm fridge with a freezer.

▪︎ Couldn't say long term, as I never accepted a truck assignment, but they seemed okay while I was doing my refresher. The main gripe I had, aside from high-mileage trucks, was that they made you take your payment on a prepaid card. You could download an app on your phone, link your banking info, then set it to transfer the money to your bank AFTER it went on the prepaid, but there was no way to cut out the middle man. Transfers could take several business days.

Lol 400,000 miles is high mileage? A truck is just hitting puberty at that mileage lol

Not these newer ones. Most megas get rid of them around then. I left PTL, went to USXpress, they gave me a Freightliner with around 200k miles on it.
