Never give company notice to quit
When time comes to quit never mentioned anything about leaving to the company.
Simply request dayoff at home and leave the truck there. 99% of the company will never pay your last paycheck is no worrying about thatbuddyd157 Thanks this. -
Don't leave it anywhere but the terminal. If their contract is like Stevens they will charge you a recovery fee up to $750.00.
Dale thompson Thanks this. -
which they’ll take anyway. Abandoned or no abandoned. There’s no way you can sanitize this and try to take a moral high ground. Some company’s just place a driver in a situation where he has no choice but to recover whatever loss he’s incurred any way he can. RIGHT OR WRONG. Remember, they drew first blood. All he wanted to do was leave and move on with his life, he even tried to do the right thing and give them notice.
if you’re going to end up 1500 miles away from home, with all your gear and maybe strapped for cash, with no final paycheck on the horizon, and an impending derogatory remark on your HireRight transcript, then you may as well leave the truck at the terminal where you picked it up at.
you can bring it 1500 miles to the other terminal, wash it, clean the inside Immaculately, take photos and put a pretty red bow on it

I’ll never understand some of these companies... they will do everything they can to lure drivers in, screw them around constantly and when the driver decides they’ve had enough the company decides to get vengeful.
Gearjammin' Penguin, bzinger and Veteran driver Thank this. -
And let me add that not all companies will take your last check, most of them will pay you your final settlement. There are decent companies out there.

They get their truck clean for free. And then get to keep two weeks of your paycheck. They have nothing to lose. This is how all European trucking company operate just in case you guys don't knowbzinger Thanks this.

I’ve always given two weeks, and have never had a problem. That said, if i knew my company would do me dirty i would take home time or vacation long enough to receive my last check. Now i have what i’ve earned & the truck is yours. I have no problems doing that.
I have more than once told my dispatcher/ boss how much a plane ticket home is going to cost me if they didn’t knock their crap off.
The best advice i can ever give an otr driver is to always have enough room on a credit card to buy your own way home. Plane, train, grey dog, rental car. Never be afraid to google your options and put your foot down.alds, nredfor88, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this. -
This right here is spot on. If my home was on the European continent, I’d be home the next day after I returned the truck with 24 hours notice.Gearjammin' Penguin, GreenPete359 and Oddu Rome Thank this.

Just an idea is why not return the truck to the depot you indicated and defeat the police issue by calling the local police or sheriff yourself and telling them about your situation that way you now have a police report to back up the fact that you did in fact return the vehicle back to the company. If its a quiet town I'm sure the local sheriff will have nothing better to do anyway..jeff18, jon69, truckguy391 and 1 other person Thank this.
