A driver has declined 12 preplans in 18 hours. He gets planned on a load at his PTA to cover a hot load going east, then backed up with a load going to Washington, his home state, in time for his home time.
Declines.
Says he doesnt have the hours.
The 48 hours available on his log say differently.
This is the stuff that bugs me. As a JIT CSR, I have hot loads to cover. If I call you, its a hot load. If I tell you I will back you up, I will. So I put this driver across the country right on his doorstep.
Declined.
So thats now 13 preplans declined. As a company driver.
If you hear people on the inside saying they wish we were forced dispatch, and if we ever go 100% forced dispatch for company drivers, you can thank drivers like this.
Riddle me this...

Surprises me that company drivers can turn down (so many) loads. I can see maybe one here or there with a valid reason, but 13? Maybe these carriers should enact a limit on how many can be declined in a specified period of time?

Sounds like a driver I would stop offering loads to!
bikegoon, biker dave, outerspacehillbilly and 1 other person Thank this. -
My only reason for something like that would be illness; IE: Tiauana Two-Step from bad food. You try asking him on the phone?

Do you have any more wild stories like this? I love this stuff from the other side (perspective).
I was walking around a truck stop one day and this driver was getting into it with his DM over the phone lol saying stuff like 'that's not a threat, that's a promise!' and 'I will fire you and get a new DM' lol. I could just imagine the DM on the other end totally wishing the driver would fire him/her lol. -
after that many refusals--especially since it is going to where he wants to be---i think i would sit him for awhile then get him home with 250 mile trips and live loads/unloads all the way home
GuysLady, The Challenger and Everett Thank this. -
Well that case is extreme, but this is just one driver not the other 16k+. "Hot Loads" "Forced", make me laugh more.

There was a time when a driver would keep refusing preplans, so we would blow PTA's out for a week, send an email to the DM and the FM. Yes, company drivers are forced dispatch, but there are some that will lie (surprising, I know) and say they are out of hours, whatever. If I get told they are out of hours with a current PTA, I will just push the PTA out 10 hours. But yes, company drivers are only supposed to be able to turn down loads for hours or sick, something like that.
Yeah I tried calling him, but he wouldnt answer the phone.
And yes Fairshake, a hot load is a hot load. We have customers that will fine us for every hour that we are late. Customers that will send us the bill for the plant being shut down and the money they had to spend paying employees. When you have a Vice President sending you emails every hour wanting to know the status of a particular load, "hot" certainly develops meaning.
You are welcome to sit in with ECT JIT any evening you are in Memphis. -
I think that driver that didn't want any of those PP's was stupid. Once I get a message acknowledged from my DM that it is hometime? I will roll and help out. As long as I know they know to get me home.
One JIT I turned down was a Central load going to Irving TX. I got up at 5am waiting for my truck to get fixed, Told when the sun came up I would be ready to roll. DM had me take a log class at 1300. Then they sent me a PP at 16:30 or so for a 2200 PU and roll to Irving by 0600 (?) I tuened it down on HOS. If I was a younger guy I would of taken it to get West of the river.
Caught some flack on that. The Challenger, Rotten, Injun and 1 other person Thank this.
