I talk to a guy that had a roof mount ac. He said never again he was tired of the water leaking in and getting his bed wet every time it rained
Rideandrepair, starmac, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this. -
APU burns a lot less fuel then your truck, and saves engine life.
Roof top AC, fuel mileage will go down from the drag on top, plus a semi looks stupid with one, except a custom built sleeper/office.
Tripac is a good piece of equipment.Rideandrepair, D.Tibbitt, PE_T and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have a Dometic rooftop unit powered by a Yamaha generator that's enclosed on my catwalk. From the inside it's the same effect as a camper as far as cutting on/off. Never any issues or leaks plus I always have power to run whatever I want for as long as I want without fear of killing batteries. Sidrambill is right, my setup was 1/3 of what an APU costs and has easily replaced and interchangable parts. It affects my fuel mileage so slightly that the yearly increase in fuel costs since installation isn't really worth tracking.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
OP you must have a mid roof top or? I couldn't mount one on my roof unless it can be mounted on the back of my truck vertically.
alds, Rideandrepair and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I have had two generator set ups, second was a generac (still have it in shed). Had a nice side mount box for it. Kept engine warm and a wabasco running; summer could never see an external AC on a semi, just me.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Everyone I know that has an A/C unit and generator set swear by them. My APU is no shortage of headache.
I would advise against it being on top, but that's just personal preference. Also having a controller in arms reach when you're laying down is nice.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
