There's lots to learn about the produce business. This segment of the industry is worried since the introduction of electronic log books. Anyone that's ever hauled produce, knows that the schedule
is tight and tough! There's lots of independents out there and some smaller carriers still running on paper logs and running hard for the produce buyers that want their product into the market in a big hurry.
Same for meat haulers.
Buyers wouldn't hire trucks that ran on the e-log system.... when they order from for eg. Toronto.... load comes in from Salinas, CA in 3.5 days... no logs... that's a heck of a schedule, but there are companies, believe it or
not still doing it. Meat haulers out of the mid-West are still doing 18 hr driving days, several in a row. They may get away with it now, but it won't last forever.... needless to say of the apparent dangers of this
type of schedule.
Just a little F.Y.I. about this kind of work, if that's what you're planning on staying with.
