Problem with a fixed knot or hitch is that the rope will wear in 1 place.

I have a question for you OP.
When the rope is cut into lenghts, are the ends burned so they don't unravel ?

If you have the same tarps all the time cut all the short pieces of rope from the d- rings and start using one long piece per side. Even without rope hooks if you have to thread it around the rub rail each trip it will still be faster and cleaner than a bunch of bungees.

Ill take a video, i figure ill give myself the summer with rope, see how fast i can. My run is close on odd days, and getting some unnecessary time wasted wont help in the winter..

yeah, I don't like using the hitches to finish it like that, another slip knot or two on the end is easier to undo.

We use a half-hitch on our glass tarps...when I started doing this type of loads, I had a heck of a time with my speed and coordination...but now, it's a 1 hand knot and holds A-frame drop tarps at 70 mph just fine, even with heavy cross winds. The only time I have to retie is when the ropes get wet, and they stretch a bit, but then it's only for retension.

Skellr,i agree ,the way he finished in the end sucks.

But the hitch he uses, and you can take my word that, will only undo easely with new dry rope.
Once the ropes get a little age to them and get wet ............bummer.
