Just stopped by to wish all the "Knighties" a Merry Christmas.
Worked for them for 5 years, left 1 1/2 years go and am out of the industry. I joined Knight 'just' when they were turning from a driver co. (about 1200 trucks) to the downward spiral that they are on now (a Swift wannabe). Cant imagine paperless logs, since will blow the crap out of their deliveries! And, of course, the drivers will always be blamed. Esp driving CA (I ran Express out of Phx) and trying to manage traffic, truck stops, etc. without over-driving up to 1 hr. I ran legal as much as possible...but in CA almost cant be done all the time.
I ran express, slipping trucks (had it down to a science, including 'disinfecting/Fabreezing' trucks to manage the smell of some drivers!) out for 7-10 days, home for 3-5 days, almost always got home when I wanted---but, once had a job related MRI scheduled 3 weeks in advanced on a Monday, DM set me up for CA load home Sunday nite, but CA dispatch changed without notice, and I ended up in Fontana w/o an MT---so bobtailed back to Phx (w/o permission!)..got hand slapped, but was their fault so no action taken! Also had all my time their w/o incident or accident, on-time deliveries, good attitude/not a whiner, etc. so they knew if they pushed me that I would quit and could easily find a job elsewhere with my clean record & experience.
Dont know what to tell all you current/former Knight drivers about what to do---but, it will get worse. Might trying hiring on with the railroads, since even Warren Buffett sees a bright future there--CSX commercials on TV are rampant for moving freight cheaply and' getting big trucks off the road'---trucking will become more & more rail head shuttling!

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd they can be messed with.

-
Especially if that load needs to be moved. -
I would run a paper one to match it with. They change it, they are screwed. -
-
It's true that they will be going to them by the end of the first quarter.

as for myself, i am not making nearly as "much" as i was before this electronic bullcrap. of course safety is stoked about it. are any of the drivers? hell no! i was making peanuts with the paper version. now i'm barely making anyTHING! a shipper/receiver goes, "oh, electronic logs, eh? too bad you can't sleep here. you have to find somewhere else, and there really isn't anything within 20mi of here. good luck!" -
Yea I was about to say, how the heck can you put a dent into a $400 dollar paycheck ? Oh yea E-Logging with a company that doesn't even pretend to care about minor things like HOS rules. Too many drivers, too little freight, too much thieving, and trucks that won't idle.
After awhile you start getting the feeling that they look at you in disbelief that you are still there. ONLY KNIGHT !! -
You can only move 7/10 of a mile without it putting you on line 3 according to a driver I talked to out of the SLC term. Heck that's enough to get you off most shippers or receivers property and onto the street with your 4 ways on and your cones out.
Guess the first problem they had with it was dp sending driver from place to place to hunt for mtys and then service failing the load. The driver told me the dispatchers now have to verify the mty before they send you there.
