I think its good if you have the accurate rate to start off with. Behind the scenes you'll never know if the rate they are basing the percentage off has been skimmed, but thats pretty much true everywhere.
Downside of it is you're now exposed to the market on downswings as well. (Like Amazon coming in now as a non-profit broker slashing rates ). You also end up with the Florida situation of good rates going in, return rates in the gutter.
If, for instance, JCT went percentage, they would probably need to also include multiple load offers (With rates) or load board, so you can more accurately choose your own destiny. And I'm sure deadhead pay would go away with that model as well to prevent people from picking the furthest load away to get low cost mile pay.

The real question, obviously, is what are the rates right now that JCT is getting...are they near what DAT Rates posts on average for Reefer Spot/Contract....You'd have to have rates of 1.75 a mile to break even with the 1.05 a mile rate we make now...

Not sure. I did see some rates I was shown early March when I was at the office of 2.60 to 2.85 a mile. Now I didnt see the shippers name.
