Blew the compressor on his apu after 50 hours on the engine. Module in cpu went bad. Someone stole his fuel caps. Someone hit his Bambi basher and ran. High hook caused him to collide into the refeer unit which caused body damage that had to be repaired. Tires, and a host of other problems that are too many for me to remember. It's like he's cursed with that truck.

I've never understood how you collide with the trailer during a high hook. You should know what the normal spacing looks like in the mirror and stop.

If don't feel the suspension compress while backing under a trailer, I stop and get out a check.

Ain't no reason to high hook let alone collide with the trailer as long you pay attention.

Hard to believe someone is having that much bad luck. APU is covered as well. Slamming a trailer into his truck? I'm sorry, but ONLY an inexperienced driver would do that....or one thai doesn't pay attention.

I watch my suspension gauge, if it don't move, I get out and check.

And yeah his maintenance account is getting beat up by himself and others.

Although the Bambi basher should be an insurance claim.

    And I agree with CRXDC....

I never let my 5th wheel touch the trailer. I back up until the king pin is starting to go into the "v" then I raise up suspension. No sense in scraping the grease off of 5th wheel.

Sure, I get out 3-4 times but that's the only way this fat trucker is gonna get any exercise.

You mean you actually get trailers where you have to lower your suspension? More often than not I can slide under a trailer and not even touch the 5th wheel with my suspension raised. Seems like people drop empties and use them as strong man competitions to see how high they can crank em.

I will say I did what you did one time, got too close, and I ended up putting the king pin on the jaws when I raised the suspension. It closed the jaws around nothing and I couldent re-hook until the jaws were pried open with a pry bar because there was no king pin to push them back open.

Actually I thought of something. Getting use to backing under trailers with the automatics...you dont have a clutch to feather and gently get the hook. He could have put the king pin on the 5th wheel ramp if he got under it too low. Raised the suspension, and pushed. The pin would have ridden the 5th wheel. And if youre going under a heavy trailer, you could just think the plate and 5th wheel are kind of binding, give it some throttle instead of being able to idle and slow clutch release, and WHAM.

I'll admit, the first few hooks with the auto, I slammed the HELL outa the 5th wheel until I found the perfect mix of weight, suspension, and throttle for a smooth *Click* without the soul crushing WHAM.
