How about looking at this an entirely different way ???

What if there was a 9" TV/DVD unit that was completely portable that accessed 28 different chanels including Fox, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, Nickelodian, a movie channel, Adult Swim, and others .... and the programming was only $14.95 a month?

Unlimited access and it tracked while going down the road ... example Phoenix to LA ... or Atlanta to Greensboro, NC ... or Dallas to Houston

And it cost less than $200 with 6 months of programming !!

hindsy, I use Directv and have my dish mounted on an 8' round pipe (for chain link fence). It is clamped with 2 U-bolts on the grab handle on the back of the cab. When I park I find out the zip code for that area, go to the setup menu on the receiver and put the zip code in, then it tells me what angle to set the dish and what direction to point it. Turn the volume up on your tv and SLOWLY turn the pipe/dish until you hear the beeps on your tv start beeping faster. After a little practice you can tune it in about 5 minutes. The other mounting option if you have mirror mounts, is to use the roof mount from the your apartment and 2 U-bolts and clamp to your mirror mount, then just put the dish on when you park. Good luck.

Thats pretty much the way I had mine set up and after a couple times of programing the height and angle I could do it in less than five minutes,I loved it.:biggrin_25514:

I am amazed at all the machinations that drivers go to simply access entertainment programming. Drivers, sometimes the simplest solution is the best one ... otherwise known "Occam's razor".

Again, what if you had a totally portable 9" screen/dvd player that coulsd access premium channels throughout the entire country ... even on the go ... and it cost less than $200 for the hardware (TV/DVD player) and 6 months of service .... would that solve all these crazy situations of trying to mount a dish antenna, spending several hundred dollars for a VuQube that will only work in a stationary location (spending $1400 for a V-30 mobile VuQube) and still have $35 - $45 for DirecTV programming?

And the service would at the highest price cost $14.95/month (on a month to month billing ---- or less on a 1 yr or 2 yr paid package)

Would you drivers be satisfied .... or would still want to make life difficult for yourselves spending time and energy trying to re-invent the wheel?

I think the point is that if you want, say, the NFL ticket on Sundays then the Direct TV set up is what you want. Yes, you pay for it, but since you have it already you are paying for it anyhow. I'm just interested in using what I have.

1400 is a heck of a lot of money. I won't be going that route anytime soon.

I really don't need to track while going down the road. No one is in the truck with me. If I got a passenger they better be up front chatting with me. If they need to back there they can watch a movie.

I don't see the point in having a dish hooked up in the truck. If it's something I really want to see that bad I'll just have it recorded and wait till I get home unless it's a game then I'll go inside to the driver's lounge.

So if I'm in the driver's lounge in say Pittsburgh and I want to see the 49ers game, I can't watch it unless they have the NFL ticket and have enough sets for every game. I think I'd rather be in my own truck. Just me...

GTS2010, twice you have referenced a "simple" solution, but havent told us what that solution is. Please elaborate.
