So, the company I'm looking to hire into has a fuel efficiency program, paid quarterly. Anyone think it would be a bad idea to get a ScanGauge to monitor fuel efficiency and make driving habit adjustments accordingly? At $200 for the KR, it would pay for itself in a very short time, I just don't want to waste money if they don't really show good real time data. Also, the ability to read codes before taking the truck into a shop might also make things smoother during any service.
    Thoughts???

I've heard Camping World, as well? There's a location about 45 minutes from where I have military duty, plus I want to look at some of their "camping gear", for my "ultra-compact RV with impressive towing capacity".

I have the regular Scangauge-D I bought direct from Scanguage.ca when I first heard of it before KR sold his.
I find it useful. I never had a problem reading the instant mpg Ike he complained about, you get use to it.
Code reading has been very helpful twice.
I emailed in my engines coding (it tells you how to do that), within a few days they emailed back my codes for reading X-gauges. I set mine to read DPF temp, SCR temp, NOx, DPF differential pressures so I can monitor how my emission system is doing.

I believe the scan gauge D is the same as the KR scan gauge, just without his name on it. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. You can find them on Amazon for around 160 bucks. I don't have one but I am thinking of getting one soon.

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Just a couple more readouts that convert price/gallon into a $/mile as you drive - not really that useful.

Scan guage D would work fine, just something to help you learn how to conserve fuel - that, it does well.

Also good for identifying guage vs. sender problems.

I also like the fill up feature, as my fuel sender is way off.

I used to run the regular scan gauge on my F-250 diesel, it was great..I never knew they made a "D" version with J1939 and J1708 adapters

The D version is for light and medium duty diesels, Pickups and motorhomes.

The KR version is for semis.

You can buy the D, and have it reprogrammed with KR software. He charges $25 making it the same price total as compared to buying an actualy KR version.

They'll both work. But the D can't function as fast as the KR. And there's some other slight differences also.

I had the D 3 years ago. It didn't have the scr or def modes. The programmed codes were different then a semi. The defenitions never matched what the shop said. The codes did, just not the defenitions. I had a lot of emissions sensors downtime when the thing was being used. It even had a tendency to shut off and take the truck down with it.

I unplugged it after the last repair and never saw the shop again. That was 3 years ago and my unit may have been defective.

They both work, but if you want semi specific. KR is the unit. D is for lighter duty diesels. Different software between the 2.

I guess I should have clarified. I know what they do, and that they're essentially awesome to have.
What I want input on, is if the average non-mega company would likely have issues with me having it in their truck, assuming I'm not altering anything beyond clearing simple codes???
