I'm in CDL School right now and I'm thinking about getting on with Schneider later on this year. 20 year Army vet. I already have my Class A CDL and working on my endorsements now. Also awaiting my TWIC card.
I have been hearing that all new drivers at Schneider are being assigned automatics. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I don't mind autos but would like to get some experience with manuals as I'm a newbie. I am leaning toward Schneider Bulk right now if they are hiring in my area. I'm near Savannah, GA and will be living in the area when I get out of the Army. Any advice you can give would be great appreciated. Thanks.

Teams get everything new, all new trucks are autos. Senior drivers will be the first to get autos in the solo world and that will probably be distributed somehow between OTR, regional and dedicated.

So basically Schneider is going full auto? Is that correct?

All megas are most likely. The leading cause for accidents is distracted driving followed by shifting errors. Just like everything else in the world its being dumbed down for our less fortunate generations coming up.

Wow. That's disappointing to hear. I had my heart set on Schneider.

Hey, I'm not trying to discourage you. They are a good place to start. Autos are a fact of life we all will deal with as company drivers. You most likely won't deal with one unless you go team. I recommend giving them a fair chance and you will not be disappointed.

If a brand new truck is available when you onboard and are assigned , thats what you get. It aint about seniority or not. Its what is available at that time.

Yeah I will talk to the recruiter and see what they say. Thanks for the info.

If you are looking wanting to drive a 10 speed, look at dedicated positions. Plenty of manuals there. Not many older than 3 yrs or so. There are some exceptions though.

I have no problem driving new automatics LOL. Here at Marten, I demanded it haha
