I have worked for both companies as a company driver and as an O/O. I started my driving with Roehl and stayed 2 years as company driver. I live in WI so both companies were on my list when I came out of school. Roehl was closer to my home so I chose them over Schneider. Left Roehl back as a company driver because of some family commitments. Got a good foundation from them that has carried me to this day. Just left Roehl 2 months ago after 3.5 years as an O/O and came on with Schneider as an IC Choice. Each company has it's good points and bad points. You will find a lot of things alike. I have found shifting back over to Schneider to be a easy transition after being back at Roehl for a bit. In general, idling is a problem with both companies. However, Roehl does have trucks with battery operated units for cooling and heating. Schneider, to the best of my knowledge has nothing and you can't idle. Roehl has freight in and out of your area but not Baton Rouge direct. Zackary is a very well known spot for Roehl van drivers. Several other accounts in that lower LA area. Both companies have regional and dedicated. Both companies will give you the beginning training that you need right now. It's just horses of different colors. If you want a smaller company then go with Roehl. Stick it out for at least 1 year regardless what the company dishes out. Jumping companies in your first year doesn't look good. Having a year of OTR gives you a good foundation to build on. It will teach you a lot that school just doesn't. Good luck

If you agree to hire onto a dedicated account with any company that has "Dollar" in their name I reserve the right to point, laugh and tell you I told you so when it goes sideways on you. The number of preventable accidents, workman's comp claims, and general driver dissatisfaction on those accounts is ridiculously high.

The rolling crates aren't bad - if you're on level ground and they're loaded by someone with a basic understanding of physics (ie loading one side with TP and the other with soda will make the blasted thing fall over). Too bad that rarely happens.

If you decide on Schneider, go with the tanker division.

SVTN hires new CDL grads and has terminal in St. Gabriel, LA

Don't worry about smooth bore tanks or surge; you will learn about that in tanker training with any tanker company you go to.

Schneider pays garbage! DO NOT GO THERE

You can get paid better than that.
    Go to Averitt or Crete.
34.-.37 right off the bat and over .40 after one year for each.

Averitt is even hiring for students for a local job right in Baton Rouge... no joke... checks their job listings.

There are a lot of tanker companies down there. If you drive down LA 30 between Gonzales and St. Gabriel, almost every tanker yard has a "CDL Driver wanted" sign out front. Go talk to these people. They are all hard up for drivers and some will hire a newbie. And maybe get you home every day too.

Just about any company with a dedicated position available to a rookie is suspect. Think about it, most drivers would love a dedicated route so why can't they fill the position. Because it sucks, that's why.
