Well I got my first truck at the VB Terminal, and it was just off th road as the driver got put into a newer Pro-star. The shop had not checked it out and told me that I could take it, provided I did not mind cleaning it myself. I took the truck and ran 2 loads and then I started having problems the Clutch. It seems that they had applied a bandaid to the clutch to fix it. I was directed to West Memphis to get it checked out.

They found it would have to go to the dealer for a repair so I called my fm and asked for another truck. They got me into a an 07 international, and out of the 04 model I was driving. only 171k on the miles and it runs like a dream....:biggrin_25518:

the training is based on hours (175 if your a new driver) make sure you get plenty of practice backing a lot of the trainers are in a hurry to to get the next load and want to use you to get from point a to point b. also be forworned the dispachers (most of them anyway) don't know what there doing. I'm just finishing my year with usa I'm one of the lucky one's Iv'e averaged 3000mi a week for the most part (I become a real pain in ### when I don't have load) but all the negitive stuff you will read is true.

I am a trainer, and yes...alot of us are in a hurry to get the next load, but one thing you should know is that the training dept has change the standards for trainers. If we have 3 student fail the upgrade test within 6 months, we have to retake the train the trainer course and possibly be suspended from being a trainer for 45 days. Meaning becoming a solo for 45 days. I have had 6 students so far and only 1 has failed, and I think they screwed over me on him because they never let him retest, they threw him straight to DSD. I give my students plenty of opportunities to back, but all trainers are not like myself. I really don't like the training dept. holding us accountable for test failures because a student driver can simply have a bad day and fail, and then go on to be one of the best drivers there is.

Well, its been a while since i posted last. Since getting my first truck, I had to trade it for an 07 model, since the tranny was bad in the first one. I have been getting over 3000 miles a week.

The biggest thing to keep in mind with this company, if it is a small thing, then let it go. They will run you as hard as you want to run. Provided you make ontime appointments, and don't bit#$ about your loads, and on the other hand they will also let you sit in the terminal for days if you dont ask for a load. Also watch your fleet manager, and if you are butting heads with them, DON'T fight with them, just ask to be routed into Van Buren, and go over to the ops building and ask for a new one. If you are doing your job properly, they will gladly give you another manager. If you are going into a trainer truck pay attention to the trainers fleet manager, and get a feel for how the trainer is running. If you and the trainer get along good, ask who their fleet manager is and see if they will recommend you for the same fleet. My trainer recommended me to his fleet manager, and i was assigned to the same fleet, they even came to me and asked if that was ok with me. After spending 4 weeks working for her in that fleet, I knew what to expect, and know how she works.

The longest I have sat without a load is 1 hour, and when my truck broke down she had me in a new truck as soon as the shop said it would take 3 days to fix. I don't sit in terminals and listen to the lounge chair bit#$# complain about load assignments. I made the mistake of talking to one of them a few weeks ago, and he told me that he had been waiting for a load for 6 hours, so I asked him how long he had been out of his truck, he stated 5 and half hours. I found out once I picked up my load assignment, that I was picking up the load that he did not respond to for over 3 hours. Well that pissed him off, but he screwed himself.....

This company is all based on your atitude, and work ethic, they have plenty of freight.....:biggrin_25518:

This includes breakdown. You'll find a lot of trailers with minor problems. The biggest one is tires that are starting to bald. If no more than 1/3 of the tread is worn, run with it, that's not a DOT violation. Also, you may want to pick up a few tail lights at the pilot (2/$10) and keep in your truck. As well as a couple of tag lights. Just remember to keep the blown ones you replaced and write down the trailer number you put them on, you can take the blown lights to the service dept at the terminal and they will swap them for a new one. It's quicker to change them yourself than to wait for breakdown to authorize having them replaced.

I find that the majority of people who don't get the miles are the ones that don't really WANT the loads. They'd rather sit around complaining about not having any load than actually running the ones they get.

As for the FM, you can also simply ask to speak to your FM's supervisor and 'fire' them if you feel they are not working in your best interest.

OTR training for green drivers is 175 hours. Less if you have previous exp. my training last almost 5 and a half weeks because he was dedicated.

Can't request trainers... i tried... maybe I should have put out....oh well.

You can request different trainers if you get a pain in the ### for a trainer though. Just to let you know, you get a choice between smoker and non smoker. thats about it.

Just curious, who was your instructor at C1 in FTW? Thats where I went.

Should be okay with USA Truck, the only problem I ever had was, well nothing really, just got tired of working for such a low cpm.

I kept a positive attitude, and ran the loads they had for me....

Your b/f should like it and it sounds like he got a good trainer.

    Trainer was Steve....

great trainer, and he made sure you weren't scared of the truck. We had a couple of guys and a girl in my truck, 2 of them were scared of the truck. One guy was from Phillipines and was scared to turn. He would pull into an intersection and completly stop and then ask Steve what to do. The girl did alright after she got comfortable with double clutching.
