I took pics and sent them to dispatch, then waited for overnight spotter who kind of grinned like he has to do this a lot. On my way out I saw him appuroached by another bobtail.

I have moved many a high trailer with the wood, no problems. The trick is to put the wood longitudeally with the trailer, no possible chance of rolling off. If you really need to go high just crib the 2x4's, 3 high will give you 4.5 inches of lift although I have a video I did where the driver dropped the trailer fully 6 inches higher than my 5th wheel. So in that case, yes it would take a lot of wood. I carry a little 16 inch handsaw and when I see a 2x4 lying on the ground I pick it up and cut it into short pieces just for this purpose. Reason is, after you use them they are all greasy so just get rid of them. They also come in handy during winter chain events, drive up on the 2x4's on the inside dual to get some clearance on the outside dual.

I have also used the 2x4's to pick up a low trailer, say my tires can't even fit under the trailer let alone the 5th wheel. Put a 2x4 on each frame rail with the air bags dropped and ease under then air up the air bags, lower the landing gear. Need more height? Dump air bags again and add more 2x4's and lift again and repeat.

The yard dog did that to all the trailers as he dropped them at a place I was at recently.
My trailer was a good 6 inches too high.

I watched him back in a trailer, crank down the landing gear all the way, then drop it.
I asked him if he knew that all the trailers were way too high. He said he did, but the truck they give him to use is too high. I guess he doesn't want the trailer to slide down the back of the frame.

Its possible that is the case. At my place we load some loads feom 2 doors that are on a downward slope. We have to raise the landing gear to get back underneath them once loaded, but we also have to lower it before moving cause there are a few hills we have to go up that will tear the landing gear up.

Too high trailers are almost always the fault of the road driver that left it. 20 years from now that driver will probably still be dropping too high. on our account EVERY SINGLE NEW DRIVER (experienced or rookie) DROPS TRAILER TOO EFFING HIGH.

I see trailers in doors, dropped by road drivers, that look like ski jumps. They drop it, run away, and never suspect they are screwing the next driver. Yard truck drivers generally would rather take a cut in pay than climb in/out of their truck 1 unnecessary time.

This morning the shipper let me jockey some trailers with their switcher truck. It's a tiny lot so when it's overflowing with dropped trailers, its a mess. That was a first for me, but his guy doesn't come in till much later so he was happy when i agreed to back a few dropped trailers into docks.

Yard guys do not give any of this a second thought. They raise and lower trailers, and don't think about us.
Its normally a list of trailers that need to be spotted, and that's what you spend your time doing.
Its not personal, but that's just my opinion.
