Hi I want get into tanker driving and foodliner is a company im considering going
with. I read their requirements which are 2
years experience or 1 year with a truck driving school certificate.Id like to know a little more about what the home time and how long you stay on the road for is like for
otr and regional as they offer both. Also how are their drivers paid, by the load/by the mile. I should be able to make better money than where I’m at now swift. Not to mention that they seem to offer a better benefit package as far as paid vacation goes. Also where do they generally send otr drivers. I read one of their ads on indeed which from the sound of it they may take drivers on with less than a year. The ad said 12-24 months experience but it also said less than 12 months experience requires additional training which I’d be okay with.
I am located half way between 2 of their terminals Albany and Yonkers but I’d prefer to work out of Yonkers terminal. I was going to put in a year at swift but things recently went south and after reading foodliners ad that they may give drivers a shot with less than a year I’m seriously considering going with foodliner. If things continue to head south at swift and foodliner says they’ll take me I’m probably going to go with them even if it means additional training. Any info on foodliner would be greatly appreciated.

I drove company for them last year for about three months. I worked regional out of the Blair NE terminal, so it may or may not be anything like New York. I did a lot of enzyme loads into ethanol plants and sugar loads to Coca-Cola and to beekeepers. I did run system a couple of times out to Cali and up into Ontario, and pulled a couple loads out of Chicago. I don't know enough to be able to say how they run OTR, but the regional was definitely out two weeks, then a weekend off. The drivers who lived closer to the terminal got home every weekend.

The pay was good. The equipment was OK, though I did have a couple of breakdowns. My only real complaints were 1) that I was told when I was hired that I would get home every weekend running regional, but then later found out from corporate that the expectation was every other weekend, and 2) they dispatched me in such a way that my sleeping clock would rotate every two or three days (driving days, sleeping nights; then driving nights, sleeping days) way more often than I like. I discussed it with dispatch, but it just kept happening. I left when I found a job that got me home every night and every weekend, partly because of the complaints, but more because we had some stuff going on with the family that required me to be home more often.

I will say that there seemed to be quite a few grumpy drivers there, especially in Blair and also the one Chicago terminal I spent some time at. I think that really depends on the terminal manager, so if that sort of thing bothers you, make sure to find some drivers from the terminal you're thinking of to talk to just to get a feel for how happy they are. I don't pick up bad attitudes too easily, but I think any of us can catch that virus if it's everywhere you go. And a lot of the time it's an indication of some deeper company culture problem, so I pay more attention to it now than I used to. But again, the pay was pretty good, benefits were pretty good, and they had plenty of work, so it's worth looking into in my opinion.

Anyone work at or have more information about working at either Albany or Yonkers foodliner terminals as I would be working out of either of thes if I go to them. I’d prefer to work at Yonkers.
