Actually he’s a local. ask to see his Commercial vehicle inspector certification.

I had a local a long time ago ask to see my logbook, i told him he wasn’t certified to see it.

 

Pretty much any local PD has 1 or 2 guys who can inspect commercial vehicles ... Ask me how i know it

Not just Chicagoland. They’re busting all the trucks in NJ too. Got dinged for left lane myself when I moved over to the left for a very short while so the truck in the right can move to the middle cause there was a state trooper giving a box truck a citation. Immediately when I moved over there was one in the left shoulder… Next time I’ll just let them blow their hats off .

 

Odd because most local PD"s dont mess with big trucks..most aren't familiar.with that stuff..but oh well

 

Did he make you go to a scale? If so, how far away was it?

 

Yeah that works out well for many who are told this - "OK, I'll call in someone who is certified. You are not allowed to leave until he gets here and it may take 3 or 6 hours".

Where I used to live, many of the cops were trained to pull over trucks for inspection, however it was the township policy that if they were caught speeding or driving carelessly, any cop within the township will pull them over and ticket them. It was fought in court by some who were ticketed with the excuse that they were not certified so they could not pull the truck over, the judge told the drivers they are there to up hold the laws and can pull any vehicle over to do just that - enforce the laws.
