Trucking is a lot more dangerous than recruiters and companies would have you believe. This poor ##### (yeah, she's no rocket scientist) is going to jail for wrecking a bridge.

    LINK

...how much are they paying to do this job???

I'm sure she wishes she never went to CDL school.
    • "During her sentencing hearing, the driver apologized for her “terrible mistake.” Her lawyer argued that she had damaged the bridge because she was a new driver and until very recently had been a member of the Amish community."
    • "The young driver was fired from her job and had her license suspended. She will likely end up serving around 90 additional days in prison due to time served."
    (sigh)
read some of the comments below the article. *"Her employer should be going to jail with her instead of just being able to fire her and absolve themselves of responsibility. The company that put her behind the wheel of that truck is just as guilty as she is."

POINT IS; This wasn't a deliberate act of Vandalism,...she made a calculation mistake and ended up in Jail....As a driver who's considering OTR, i ask myself....WHY?

    ??

Then you have cases like the Wal-Mart Tracy Morgan where the driver murdered someone, and didn't see any jail time (well, not much, and not convicted anyway)

Mostly it's as simple as don't be so stupid a turnip would make better decisions and you'll be fine. The dirty little secret is driving is very easy, keep the speed under control, and keep the wheels between the line. Trucking challenges are mostly based around the human component of shippers, receivers, other drivers, dispatch etc...
And before other posters jump on me, this is geared to new drivers doing vans and flats. The osd, off road, ice road type trucking does take skills, but no newbie worried about jail time will be doing that.

No big deal; there's approximately 3.5 million truck drivers in America and not all of them qualify for Mensa membership.

Murder??? ( realize he accepted a plea deal), but Murder is something that is done with Intent. I don't think that driver intended to kill anyone.

Tracy Morgan case (from what i read) was a Driver who was "pushed too hard by Wal-mart" to make a delivery. From what i read, the driver had to commute 750 mile before starting his work-day. SO, the driver drove from his home, 750 MILES to dispatch, and then started his clock-time (a dangerous and foolish decision).

Actions have consequences. If you are grossly negligent as you perform your duties, those consequences could have criminal charges attached. If you're making a good faith effort to do things right, you generally won't have anything to worry about in regards to being criminally prosecuted.

The Walmart should still be behind bars,
he chose to commute that far between his job and his home.
He chose not to leave home early enough so he could be rested before getting on the highway with me.
He chose to drive when he was tired.
    Hmm, that's First Degree Murder.
    .
    The woman was just stupid.

So, she WAS Amish, but now drives an 80k lb semi. Talk about culture shock. What, they don't teach basic knowledge stuff like how much weight a ton is in Amish schools?

First degree murder is premeditated murder. The wal-mart driver committed vehicular manslaughter, big difference.
