Don't see that legality really has much to do with it. It's more of a choice thing, choose not to load there or give them the licence and get loaded. Iv'e had plenty of places that copied mine, it's there ball and there rules.

Not gonna get a copy of mine. Some other fool can haul their crap. Personal information does not get randomly distributed. Heck, even the military base just looked at it.

Name, date of birth, address, and driver license number. They can apply for credit and a number of other things with that info. I believe by law they have to give you their written policy as to why they need it, who has access to it, how the information is stored and retrieved, and she and how it is destroyed.

Actually, it is illegal. Your license is the property of the state that issued it. States regulate who may copy, scan or store the information contained on a drivers license. Doing so without authorization of the state is a criminal offense.

I believe you're right, only L.E may query, photocopy and retain that information, and they need a valid reason to do so, not just out of curiosity....Even to share this info with another demands a lawful reason to do so...Police officer's have been arrested and convicted for querying personal information without a lawful reason....Same as a Passport, only a federal officer or the Dept of State may do that as the passport is not yours, it is U.S government property, read the fine print on the inside cover...Any company that demands this is asking for a lawsuit or worse, any driver that complies is putting his info at risk....Any driver that gets fired for not complying likely has a good case against not only the carrier, but also the shipper for punitive damages.. Just my 2 cents.....

They can do whatever they want. Don't want to comply then go f*** yourself. It's private property.
