I've never been able to apply for credit without giving my SS#. Don't know how anyone else would be able to.

They can quesry your credit record with your Drivers License Number, that gives then access to your SSN. I had someone get my license number, and apply for 7 cards, max them out, then the creditors started calling. Due to the amount of the theft, they prosecuted, I guess the guy had a regular operation going, I was not the only one. That is when I found out to be careful who gets it. Back when I first had a checking account, we had our drivers license number printed on them, not now, my credit union says no.

Actually no they can't. The information on your drivers license is considered PII by the Government and classified as such. Since they require it, they are required prior to collecting the information have a policy in place that states why it is required, who can collect it, how it is safeguarded, and who has access, as well as the length of time they maintain the information, and how it is destroyed. I am not sure why you let folks do whatever they want, identity theft in the US is a real problem, having been a victim I safeguard it.
You also have the right to refuse to produce it to anyone who is not a law enforcement agency, and cannot produce a policy on PII. You have the right to inform your employer you will not allow dissemination to a 3rd party without a policy in place as required by law, and your employer cannot demand, or require you to produce it.
Private property or not, there are some things in life you should not just willy nilly give away.

You don't understand. Maybe you don't have to give it to them but they can still say go F*** yourself and get lost. Simple as that. I can put a sign on my door at home that says women must take shirt and bra off before entering. Don't want to do it? Go away. Nothing illegal about it. My place, my rules.

They can't ask unless they have a policy, they ask, no policy, you can sue and collect. So they can kick you off the property, but will be writing you a check. You on the other hand are not asking for PII, so you can ask.

LMAO....Lets see, rent a car, give me your license. Paying by credit card, give me your license. Fueling without prepaying, give me your license. Going into that club, give me your license. Coming on base to deliver, give me your license. I'll be rich when all these people write me a check.

Rental car companies have a PII policy, your credit card company has a privacy policy which covers authorized merchants. You giving your license when you fuel and go into a club is your choice, you allow it, so it continues. I am not asked for either of the last two.

Like I said, if you don't want them to copy your license then get lost. They can refuse anyone they want. Don't like it? TOO BAD! Go load someplace else.

In so much as they can ask for your D/L doesn't make it a legitimate reason, or even a legal reason, to have it....They do it for their convenience, and maybe more....C'mon now, they could accomplish the same "safeguards" by other ways, truck/trailer plate, driver's name, carrier's MC#, truck VIN#, bond info, etc, etc.....They do not need a copy of your D/L to accomplish what they want and by you giving it to them, you open yourself up to identity theft big time.....

There are many instances out there where someone collects PII and sells just the data too someone, with that party then using it illicitly, just like US said....

You're right when you say they can tell you to get lost, BUT, if you're fired due to just that, you have the legal right to sue, and guess what, you'll win, and win big, particularly with a large corp or mega with deep pockets....Think about it, your job lost unlawfully, your future employment prospects also jeopardized?....A civil atty would love to take the case, smell $$$?....

There are times when one needs to just grow a set and protect yourself....No Henry dumb nuts in the shipping office with the felony record is getting my D/L info, nope aint happening, just saying...I'm being fired over it, ok, I'll ensure that I document everything (5w's) thoroughly, and I'll see you in court....Remember, if it ain't wrote down, it never happened...

Ive had copies made. Frankly I could care less. Some of those loads were Uncle Sam's and frankly I just shut up and deliver it to either port to put on a ship or to another depot and they can have it all.

If soemthing comes up regarding legal or not, that is what lawyers are for. You cannot allow a copy of your license to be made anyhow because it's a form of crime. Ive made copies to send to states such as Maryland years ago when the court house challenged my voting cards being in two states at once. Choose which one and cancel the other. Copy of CDL was proof. Wheels of govt turn slow but they turn.

What you will not do is hand over your cdl to anyone. Not the shipper, not the reciever etc. We had a stack of copies in color even, if a shipper wanted it, they got a copy. If they sqawked about it I guess we are not going to be the ones to be loaded today. Maybe tomorrow somewhere else. No big deal.

Customs in Canada is the one place that things got interesting. We never had any trouble coming or going (And that is something we value in life, being able to just go and visit. But might need either a enhanced license (Whcih will become mandatory 2020 here in Arkansas) to cross over or a passport.

Mexico could not be bothered if there was not a customs station your truck was your license. After all no one gives out a truck to just anyone to drive. I imagined things have changed very much since 9-11

I talked about things that probably will not be allowed to fly today, if a shipper wants a copy get it to him After all your company has stacks of copies of your CDL on hire to fax to them if they have not done so already. It's nice to be known by name and attention to high dollar loads that demand it. Instead of just another wtf load of toilet paper or something.

Long ago we used to use our graduation dates on our A licenses (Prior to 1994 cdl) and say here is a parking spot. So and so with the earliest date of licensing would get the spot.
