Ca. has a magnetic strip like a credit card on the back. I've seen banks use my D/L as ID and swipe it to verify who I am. Can you say "high tech"?

I guess it doesnt really matter if someone is going to steal the information its probably going to be someone in the office . I dont have an issue with showing identification many loads had been stolen by thieves pretending to be a driver picking up a load. I just had an issue with the shipper having drivers id's exposed as i can see a few of them where they live when they were born etc. Some people just steal the info and put their picture make a fake i.d. with your valid credentials and rack up tickets etc.

My fear is they are throwing it in the trash and the janitors decide they want to make $50 for each one they can supply to an id house. Happens all the time in LA. My last job we always used our company ID, all it had on it was our picture, employee number, employers phone number, and company name.

Beginning I think Dec. 1st, there are new federal food safety shipping standards going into effect, three of our regular food shippers will no longer allow outside access to the property without a copy of your photo ID on file. Leprino Foods put out a specific memo about it the first of Nov., this is not just for pickups, but even deliveries of non-food related items. If you refuse, you will be refused entry to the property. One of our bean shippers has done this intermittently for years, when the USDA inspector is around, they will take a copy of your license, if he isn't, they don't. They said the same thing, no license, no load.

A photo id and a Drivers License are not the same, and Leprino is HQ'ed in California. California requires anyone who collects any PII to advise the owner of the PII prior to collecting it what statute requires the collection of the PII, and what their records policies are in regards to collection, dissemination and destruction, prior to collection, and must inform you in written form. Basically they have to justify the need for the collection of the data. In the new Food and Safety Transportation Act, there is no requirement to collect any identification, it only requires those who transport human or animal food products receive training in it's handling. I am going to guess that is not on your driver's license, and there is no requirement identification, let alone photo or otherwise, be collected. Me being me, I would challenge them and ask them to show me the requirement in the new law for a Photo ID. They may kick me off, but not all is lost, a quick letter and they will cease doing it.

Let them make a copy, who cares??
Most bars hold my debit card so I don't walk off without paying.

Um, yeah, from the Leprino Foods website
    Leprino Foods
    Corporate Office
    1830 W. 38th Ave.,
    Denver Colorado 80211

You might want to recheck the rest of your info, I don't have the original paperwork handy as I gave it to my boss, along with all my coworkers who have been receiving copies of the same paperwork for the last 15 days, but since we do 15 to 20 loads per week out of Greeley and another 3 to 4 out of Ft. Morgan, for the last 15 yrs. fairly certain I recall the signs posted. The signs applied to ALL CARRIERS of any type, all deliveries and pickups of any type.

I won't be going there, they still don't comply with Federal Law. The new dairy product regulations only state your company is responsible for your training, not the shipper. Having had my ID copied and sold out the door of a warehouse, spending 500+ hours cleaning up my credit files, being sued twice by collectors who claimed it was me, no thanks. I am not sure why folks think it can't happen to me, all it takes is one, and you will do what I did. In the credit world the onus is on you, not the creditor.

My wife and I have each had our ID stolen twice. Perhaps you would prefer to sling burgers? This is the new world we live in, anti-terrorism, food safety, whatever they want to call it. What happens tomorrow if your employer tells you to comply or walk? Or, your an O/O, broker says comply or walk? You know what, a good RFID scanner and I can get the info from your license standing behind you. Do you use credit cards or debit cards? I can get your info easily from that. BTW, your on the internet, I know people that within 2 hours could back trace your login, starting with these forums and begin digging for anything and everything personal on it, a keystroke logger is easily installed remotely. Hell, we just had that massive data breach on here a few months back.

I would walk, I don't need the anguish. I use whenever possible cash, rarely use a CC or ATM. Just because you have a copy of my CDL does not mean I am not a terrorist, it just means you have a copy of my CDL, and have no reason or use for it, you can't authenticate if it is real or not. They are not running a background check, and I could hand them a fake license for all they know, and I do have one, fictitious name, address, good luck finding him. If they really cared about security they would require a TWIC when entering. That would address their security concerns.
