I hardly ever see anyone hauling shotgun coils anymore. Why?

only ti.e I ever pull shotgun coils is when they are thin, loose(not banded together) and not heavy. They also account for less than 1% of all coils ive pulled. Ive seen multiple light thin coils banded and loaded suicide, perhaps because its less of a pita for everyone involved.

I was thinking maybe a new law says you can't load coils like that. Or the experts in the office at the mega companys said thats how its done.

I like shotgun because you can throw straps over the coils bettter, and wide coils can sit side by side

I think it has to do more with what the delivery site will use to take them off. One place that we deliver to will not touch a shot gun coil. they have an over head crane. Not sure but I think they dropped on once.

    I have a question ( Raises hand ).

What are shotgun coils? I thought this was going to be a thread about 10 gauge goose guns or magnum autoloaders.

Put your hand down and be quiete!:D

A lot of places can not unload shot gun because they can't get into the eye with a forklift.

I understand what your saying. Dont mean to sound like a jerk here. So dont take it that way, but if you secure a coil right, you dont need any straps.

Some guys say "well i use them because it holds my tarps on there better".

Well, get the right tarps and you will thank yourself AND look like a boss goin down the big road.

A giant roll of sheet steel, think of a large roll of totlet paper ready to roll off a flatbed. If it's loaded with the eye to the side, its called suside because it can roll over the truck and driver at a hard stop. If it is loaded with the eye to the front and back that's called shotgun, and it would then roll off the side of the trailer.
