Don't be dismayed, if you've been a driver for 7 years, you aren't new to the abuse. I've locked horns with some that don't care for my outdated views, but generally, a better place to ask questions, you won't find and given the opinions of several, you can make your own conclusions. People that give snide answers have forgotten what it's like to ask a question, heaven forbid they ever have to. It's so much more complicated today, almost to the point of "why bother", I'm sure what the feds want, but it can be done. My advice, and it's not outdated, start cheap, get a truck suited to what you want to do, not some large car to haul rocks,,or visa versa. Good luck, keep us posted, eh?

Absolutely, I appreciate it it brotha. Thought one trucker would love to help another, I can see now that’s not the case. (Possibly some are sleep deprived?) Just wanted some simple answers and opinions, nowadays everything seems to be a debate and argument. Then I return the sarcasm and I’m the one in the wrong. Boy oh boy, what a world we live in. It’s all good, I’m not discouraged. Even with the unnecessary responses I appreciate them. Never thought about started my own, so I never really did the research. I have been doing research in sites other than this, but every bit of info I can get really helps. Thank you a lot!!

Yes to pointy lugnut covers, bring your own tall shifter. Also 2 matresses with questionable stains. Interchangeable stickers with a large selection specializing in eastern European and sub Saharan Africa. If you decide to rent I've made special arrangements with the construction site next door to use one of their porta-potties.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

    @NOWAYBUT1

Here's a thread I started 7 years ago when I bought my truck after 10 years as a company hand.

Yes, it's 200 pages long now, but includes all the highs, lows and actual figures along the way.

Your weekend research assignment starts now.

I took the time to diary 7 years of my working life, and make it available free of charge to help anybody that cared to read it.

See! We're not such a bad bunch of people here.

    You're welcome.

The journey begins - purchased a truck.

Badmon, jamespmack, D.Tibbitt and 6 others Thank this.

Only you know your work habits

If you like to sleep until noon. Home by 4pm and run only a 50 mile radius then maybe not

Not sure local would be my plan but what I like or what works for me might not be the same for the next guy

Work ethics and a plan to shift if needed will be much of the deciding factor

    You're welcome.

There's another thread by Double Yellow that is worth a read.

My best advice is to do a lot of research, keep a thick skin, listen to all - including failures, keep a grain of salt for those that overstate success - PREPARE FINANCIALLY, and examine yourself.

@zmster2033 and @staceydude have excelled as O/O with zero prior experience , but they put in a TON of research and guts to succeed.

If they can, so can you.
