Contemplating putting a truck on the road for some regional work. 300 mile radius from home. Truck, flatbed, and hopper bottom all paid for. If I decided to run a van, would have to find one nicer than what I have Mostly run them on the farm. I've been watching the loadboards the last year or so. I have my own authority, would just have to change the plates and insurance on one truck to for hire. Right now I have a 3 day a week sales gig, and work the farm. I help a guy out running hopper bottom if I don't have anything else to do. Thinking of just going to the truck and farming.
Priced for hire insurance and it wasn't too bad. The only thing that I'm wondering about is I have 2 trucks on this policy, so if I change to for hire they both have to go that way. One truck will only be a farm truck. Would I be able to get a 2nd dot number to run this truck on since it's for farm use? That way I can cut the insurance down. Still waiting on an answer from the fmcsa.
Should I put a truck on the road?
