Should I quit my job before or after going to orientation?

Prime has a very comprehensive program over there........they really want their students to make it through and be well equipped to make it in the industry.......they will support you .....and the weight thing.....just work on losin it....you can do that... ....

 

The important thing is getting a foothold into an industry that will provide you with better income potential, based on what Im hearing from you, that seems to be your goal.....and, once in, tru king has jobs that require heavy labor activity.....i.e unloading trailers on a foodservice job such as Sysco or Mc Clane.......or on the Dollar General account at ,for example Werner enterprise.......so you could go that route too.....tgat WILL help a driver loose weight! Believe me!....

 

I've never understood this reasoning. If I quit a job and even think of not notifying, I will not be back. There is a reason i quit. Why would I want to get treated like that again?

With driving jobs a dime a dozen, I'll at the very worst move sideways. There is no point moving backwards to the old job.

 

Let's say you have been driving two months, and a drunk driver comes across from the opposing lanes of traffic and hits your truck. You saw it coming and kept from taking the hit nose on, but the drunk smashes your driver side steer, and you lose control long enough that you end up in the ditch. You survive, but got beaten up pretty decently. Let's say a broken leg and a concussion.

Workman's comp will help until you are healed, but you find that even thinking about getting in a big truck again gives you uncontrollable anxiety. You CAN drive, but you are miserable and paranoid.

That old job might look pretty decent.

 

I have found in my 60 years that you don't burn a bridge you might be forced by circumstances to cross. I know several people that tried trucking and over time come to see it was not for them. Also sometime a job dynamic will change. Then as was brought out in the above post something might happen to get a driver disqualified and can no longer get a medical card. There can be good reasons for returning to a job, however, in general, most folks don't go back.

 

This creates a dilemma for you quit your current job with no certainty that you'll get your CDL or even like the company that you choose to drive with, where as you've already got a secure job and a regular pay check its a bit like buying shares isn't it? When you buy you don't know whether they'll advance in price, or go sideways or go down but at some point you must take the risk and buy those shares. So with your job you need to make the decision to either stay with your current job or take the risk quit and start your new career, why not ask the future employer what they suggest you do.

 

That scenario is more to do with changing careers than quitting. Sure you have to quit to change, but you are not quitting because the current company cannot/will not supply something you want.
So yes, changing careers go ahead and give notice. Heck I gave a 4 week notice when I changed careers.

But moving from one driving job to another.... No way will I ever be back. I fired them for a reason. Either got tired of the lies, wanted to go local, or whatever. Way too many companies out there begging for drivers to ever put myself in the situation that made me want to quit.

And to say the company can change, well in my experience is the company cannot change. They will put lipstick on the pig, but it's still a pig.

 

Some of the analogies here I just flat out dont get....this shouldnt be some journey with hidden and unknown variables........as has been suggested in some of these responses......Do you , or do you not have a good work ethic ? Do you have a clean history? Can you absorb and apply yourself with knowledge? .....see?......not like the stick market at all!....well, if it is......its security bonds!.....
