Well MOST Amish buggy's Ive seen have had reflectors of some sort on them. That is not to say they are easy to see at all times. But if you are rolling that fast on the back roads maybe you should slow down ....I dont know just sayin.........

My ex swerved to miss hitting a dog- said he turned the wheel just a little bit- hit a utility pole. Got send home that day pending investigation. No ticket issued and no drug screen done. Took 8 days to fire him as preventable accident. Not sure what is next (he is soon to be ex) as he got some mail from the state the accident was in from the courts. Maybe has to pay for the damage to the pole?

If I was driving as much as it would be aweful to kill or hurt an animal, I would hit it. I have hit deer in the car due to swerving and if I HAD NOT I probably would have had less damage. I would not want to be responsible for a rollover that ended up killing people to save an animal.

I was cruising along the interstate about 2AM kinda yawning and rubbing my eye when I refocused just in time to see a mama racoon leading her brood across right in front of my truck. There was zero time to react anyway so just kept my straight path and endured that sickening bumpy thumpy feeling as I ran over all the babies and saw the mama had turned around to head back to the median only to be mowed down by the car in the fast lane which I saw in my mirror.

It took some time for me to get over that.

Occasionally see field mice darting back and forth on the road at night and see the birds trying to grab a morsel from their pancaked bodies in the mornings.

Another sad one I saw was a groundhog which had been squished from his hindquarters and was suffering on the road and everyone was going around the poor guy instead of putting him out of his misery.

Ya SCOTTIED, sometimes it isn't pretty. I don't care for it either, but look at it like this, we're here to be their masters, or words to that effect. I've hit my share of critters over the years, and had to put many others down by my own hand. I used to hunt every fall, now I don't care much about it. But I won't fault anyone that does it. I guess it's just part of the way it is, eh.:biggrin_25525:

Yep pretty much had the same thoughts, I've seen a few moose up close and personal... Ya might pass on to the other side either way with that encounter. Have seen the after math of cars, vans, and even a big rig and none where what I'd say better to have hit the moose than the ditch. Oh btw that truck was tore up bad enough to be hauled away on a low- boy trailer. I think the driver got out with his life, but he was hurt bad as I recall. It was many a moon ago.

i don't know about you up thar in penny-sil-vain-e-ah, but every freaking time i ever saw an Amish horse and buggy, they WERE NOT on the superslab........

i too can agree.........i wouldn't want to his a bus load of children, or a church group. god only knows the wrecks we have all seen on the news about those. best to hope and pray one survives the ditching at that time.........but again..............12 to 15 seconds lead/sight time.............and re-acting in time to avoid such a crash.

this is true..........if ANYONE is going that fast on a country road, it DOES become the drivers fault 1000%..........and I JUST AIN'T SAYING........

without a doubt, i knew there would be an over whelming amount of support for this poll. except for one person, who isn't even a driver yet........someday, if faced with this decision, he WILL DO what we would all do........

as i pretty much stated, we are all reasonable men and women, who face adversity on the roads each and every day. urban sprawl, has been taking over the animals roaming range for years, and it isn't going to end anytime soon, if at all.

i ask, "do we really need MORE shopping malls"........."do we really need more housing development in light of the mortgage crises and the never ending foreclosures"......."do we really need more highways that dissect through wooded areas"...........???

thank you to all that have echoed the sentiment, "it's either the animal or me"...............

I assume you're referring to my comments in a different thread with "when it's safe to do". Since your poll only gives two choices and only deals with animals it has nothing to do with my comments, but I bet you feel good to have gotten the obvious results to your poll.

Now many may disagree with me but to say never swerve under any circumstance is just ridiculous. I guess if you feel people don't have the ability to judge a situation and react appropriately, in other words everyone is just a mindless drone, then yes, it would be as black and white as do or don't.

You will most often have NO time to think about it.........

It's best to already have it implanted in your head what you WILL do !!!!
