2016 T680 isx15 13 speeds, I got it 2 years ago at 595k miles. Now right over 700k miles the tranny can't get into 3/4/7/8 gears, basically the whole right side.
Shop quoting 14hrs labour, 4500 cad for 2y reman tranny. Total 6500 cad for tranny alone.
There have been some suspicious oil leaking/spill around clutch brake, causing very difficult to get clutch brake working except when truck starting at morning (maybe oil spill to clutch when driving on highway). A good chance to take a look on this. Is that probably rear main seal?
Any ways would you guys recommending replacing clutchs as well? looks like total gonna be 8000 cad (6000 USD) in total. Not that big but quite a major bill for the first time.
Sigh...first major bill for owning used truck

learn how to drive the truck without a clutch brake.
Likelyness it is the trans seal, but replace the rear main too and the clutch.Rideandrepair, skallagrime, austinmike and 3 others Thank this. -
The whole side not working may be the shift rails .
If the whole trans was bad wouldn’t it be every gear ?Rideandrepair and engine_900 Thank this. -
Rideandrepair, CruzControhl2, Sons Hero and 2 others Thank this.

Usually they require you to put a new clutch in for the warranty to be valid?
I know Eaton requires a new clutch and a very specific oil on the same bill.Rideandrepair, Oxbow, engine_900 and 2 others Thank this. -
Absolutely replace clutch, get a good 2050 Eaton easy pedal. Should last 1 mil miles . Might as well do rear main seal. Only extra cost is removing flywheel, and that’s only if it doesn’t already need to be resurfaced. It will definitely start leaking, probably before 1 mil miles if it’s not already. Clutch brake not working isn’t because of oil. They’re made to operate with grease on them. Most likely likely it’s worn or linkage is worn or out of adjustment. As mentioned make sure the trans is actually bad, not just a linkage or something that can be fixed by removing the top.,when mine went bad, a friend pulled the inspection plate, could clearly see and move the upper set of gears. I think it’s called the right bank. It’s the highest gears in the trans. Maybe was ran with low oil? I don’t know much about transmissions. A good mechanic can probably tell you for sure.
jbatmick, JoeyJunk, engine_900 and 4 others Thank this. -
Pull trans and have rebuilt by a reputable shop. Reman trans are gone through on assembly lines and by tolerance specs. A good shop will replace all parts necessary to see you another 800k miles down the road.
Replace clutch, resurface flywheel - and while the trans is out, replace anything you think would be easier to do at that stage.
That's just my 2c, NZ/CAD/USD or pesos.86scotty, Rideandrepair, Sons Hero and 7 others Thank this. -
Don't own a truck yet but I see some really good mechanical advice. Where/who would resurface a truck flywheel..kenworth/machine shop?
Also is there any throw out bearings he should replace?Rideandrepair, Oxbow and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Back when I was company driver when I joined this forum - I went . . .
"SSSSHHHHHHH - the big boys are talking" - and just read, and learned. And there's Sooo much to learn.Rideandrepair, Accidental Trucker, Numb and 5 others Thank this. -
Thank you all for your great advice. I've heard tranny can last 1mil miles plus, while the truck has been running through mostly I-5 from BC to CA, also lots work within BC mountain. 80% time load 77-80k lbs. Tranny temp reached 220-230 when climbing hills in BC/OR/CA. During the summer it would almost reached 240... I suppose such usage and high tranny temp have shortened the lifespan?
Rideandrepair and blairandgretchen Thank this.
