After seeing the video of him blowing past the runaway ramp pop up a couple places today, I was reminded that there wasn't the smoke of a truck with overheated brakes. Be interesting to know exactly why that was.TheLoadOut, drvrtech77, TROOPER to TRUCKER and 1 other person Thank this.

I assume that happened well before that point, he was moving at a good clip then already as I recall. I assume he knew the brakes were gone and wasn't even attempting to use them at that point, just riding it out. I haven't seen that clip since 2019, all the ones I've tried to watch go all whacky about 8 seconds in.

Just before the downgrade begins that leads to that ramp, there's a mile-long upgrade with a convenient brake-cooling area at exit 254. There's another long upgrade before the Evergreen exit at 251.
The video of him swerving left instead of right and blowing past the runaway ramp was taken because he was already driving very fast and scaring the crap out of four-wheelers. There are numerous warning signs, none of which he could read because he doesn't read or speak English as required by federal regulations.
One thing no one mentions is that he was on the wrong route in the first place. The correct way to take a load of lumber out of Saratoga, Wyoming, to Texas is to take Wyoming 130 north to I-80, then US 287 from Laramie to Fort Collins to I-25, or I-80 to I-25 in Cheyenne. Even a ####### rookie Prime flatbedder like I once was would know better.
Route he took:
Route he should have taken:

The judge is not an old-fashioned hanging judge. Just the opposite. He let this guy go back to Texas for two years with no ankle bracelet while he was awaiting trial. And he stated on the record that he didn't want to give this sentence but his hands were tied by the minimum sentencing laws.
So the old-fashioned Colorado legislature in the 90s did what the current politicians would never do. Watch for the introduction of legislation to remove mandatory minimums next session. -
Here's the problem, in my opinion:
His sentence (while being the mandatory minimum) is much stricter than "normal", right? Well in my eyes, his sentence was perfect. He killed several people, and some of them burned to death. The ACTUAL PROBLEM is sentences for everything else are too light. If this guy's sentence seems too harsh in comparison, then we don't need to soften his sentence, we need to get tougher on the rest of them.
It floors me that people are looking at this through the eyes of the trucker, and feeling sorry for him, when they should be looking through the eyes of the family members that had loved ones BURN TO DEATH.
And unless they hold his handlers responsible, it's just going to keep happening.Northern Nomad, 86scotty, TheLoadOut and 11 others Thank this. -
his hands were tied..??
he still lowered the boom...results..???
hanging judge. -
that's right, an entire family lost a loved one.
future families were lost.
all the ex-driver lost is his future freedom.TheLoadOut, Last Call, TROOPER to TRUCKER and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes, his hands were tied. He gave the absolute minimum sentence he was allowed.
Giving the absolute minimum is not the definition of a hanging judge. Now if he had given the maximum on all counts you could call him a hanging judge.Last edited: Dec 20, 2021
