City, state, MC, & weight are not required -- at least not federally. There is no requirement about putting all of the information together, just that it must be on both sides, in contrasting colors, & visible from 50' (2" tall lettering is the accepted standard).

Note that USDOT has no space in it...

I sugges that your signs to identify your truck and company be so that it is easy to read and identify who you are,,company name,,us dot number and mc number,,anything less and you either must not be proud who you are or you are afraid that if you are and unsafe company or a fly by night out fit and want to hide your company identification,, If you are good you have nothing to hide,,

Hi Crazy, not too sure about that, however ,I do know, scale operators don't take too kindly to nothing at all. I drove a truck once, that didn't have the co. name on it, so we used those magnetic signs on the door. Scale on I-90, just south of Madison,Wis. wide open, I didn't care, as I was a local company, with 2 pallets on. Woman cop, (who I heard hated truck drivers), said, "Park it around back, bring in the paperwork".Went in, she said, "you have no markings on the truck". I said, sorry to disagree with you (your highness), but there is indeed a name on the door. She said, "bring it around again". I did, there was the name, on the door. She ( looking a bit flustered)said, "well, It wasn't there before, take it away". HA, Busted.:biggrin_25522:

Good info above. If you run through Colorado you may want to have the last, I think, 8 numbers of your tractor Vin number on the right side. Could keep you from having to keep taking your permit book in to show them.

As stated--may not be NEEDED--but less hassle if there--on another note--dont know where you run or plan to run--BUT--If you have ANY intentions of running NYC--PUT THEM ON AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE VISIBLE--big time RED FLAG to the SWAT types that work the bridges going in...if nothing visible--plan on getting stopped--searched--harassed etc.....

Yes, anything but the last 8 will get you pulled in for a look at your registration. I'd put it on both sides, though.

    (3) If the name of any person other than the operating carrier appears on the CMV, the name of the operating carrier must be followed by the information required by paragraphs (b)(1), and (2) of this section, and be preceded by the words “operated by.”

Good point. It was after going in with my paperwork 3 times in 2 days I made the comment I was going to have to start billing them for my time. He said if I had my vin on my truck it wouldn't happen so I put it on the next time I was home.
