I am not a doctor, but I watch them on TV. Sleep apnea is a condition that is caused by other factors. A CPAP machine treats the symptoms.
Treating sleep apnea with a CPAP machine is analogous to treating a headache with aspirin. Yes you can continue to take aspirin until you develop ulcers in your stomach, or you could find the cause of the headache, eliminate the cause and the need for the aspirin and it's side effects.
It's your body. You know what has to be done.

Okay, no idea why you said this. Did I make a point in saying obesity is healthy? Why do people do this, its almost like you wish I had said that.

I bet you are just as qualified as they people running sleep clinics. You know the ones the "doctor" at the medical card mill just happens to have a brochure for? I mean he's never had a problem and they do such great work and all.

You don't think the doctors working at the sleep clinics and the general practioners that recommend the test aren't real doctors? Once again, I know there are other reasons for sleep apnea, but the majority are from being overweight.

Study done in 2010 found that the rate of obesity in trucking industry was more than double national average (69% to 31%) so I would say they are "targeting" the right industry since it's the leading cause. Drivers already work extreme hours leading to being tired, no reason to not tackle a huge issue with being tired as well. Like has been stated numerous times, driving tired is more dangerous than driving under the influence of alcohol.

The people running those clinics are college educated under the supervision if medical doctors.

You can have that fixed with surgery, couple around the corner, both had them removed, funny it is called a T&A, no more CPAP. I didn't know they could cause an issue.

I'm overweight. I don't have sleep apnea, my doctor concurred and put it in my file. A file which is accessible to the DOT certified examiner in the same office (medical group) my doctor is part of.

No sleep test for me, period. My boss (which is me) isn't forcing or requiring it either ;-)

Okay just curious, how often do you talk with other drivers about this? I have heard many since this crap got started who state that they sleep worse with the CPAP. They don't like things on their face, wires get tangled etc. I don't know because I've never slept with one. Now, I've heard drivers also say that it was a life saver. Point is, why don't we let those individuals make the decision about what works for them and what doesn't in regard to their sleep, which might be the most personal thing a human can do?
I worked with a driver who was diagnosed, he was overweight and said he slept fine until they made him where a CPAP to keep his job. He did a great job, lost 120 pounds over a year and a half. Down to a very healthy weight and they still wouldn't let him off of it. Again, it's like AIDS, once you have it( or they claim you do), you will never get rid of it. That shouldn't be.

You place so much trust in these sleep clinics when all I see is a system that is set up to be rife with scam potential. If you made CPAP machines, why wouldn't you approach sleep clinics?
