I agree with Hotrod — if you’re looking for a traditional long-haul company that runs primarily only solo drivers — meaning not competing with teams for freight — Then Holland is your best bet IMO.
I’ve read through this tread — not all of it — and I must say that I can’t believe some of nonsense operations puts their drivers through at Shaffer. (meaning the micromanaging, empty trailer hunting , and fuel solutions that don’t make sense sometimes).
Couple this with all of the lack of communication, and you have a recipe for frustration, primarily on the drivers end. Again, Holland isn’t perfect, no business or trucking company is, I’ve always said, what company works for one driver, may be a disaster for another.
All I know is that from my experience at Holland, is that you’re primarily married to a trailer for months at a time and you’re far from being micromanaged. Also the driver gets his or her health care paid for in full after a year of employment. It’s also fair to point out that in the rare occasion you have a D-N-H I’ve never picked up a trailer with flat tires, expired registrations, or broken clearance lights.
As mentioned before, Holland isn’t for folks that
don’t like to run. A solo driver on a 4 week tour will have no problem producing over 3200 miles a week ( based on 7 days). This is excluding the week of going and coming back out from home time.
The additional 0.04 bonus per month is more that attainable. If you’re a runner you can easily produce 13500 -15000 a month doing one or two loads a week because of the length of haul. And again, we DONT mess with ANY produce or go to the meat patches because we don’t hail any of that. Even Tyson. We very rarely haul for them as well.
I realize some drivers prefer to stay within a certain radius of their home location, and thats certainly ok. I’m only speaking of myself. I’d rather close two doors and ride for 4-7 days before I have to bump another dock. Again, that’s my style of driving. There isn’t anything wrong with drivers that prefer to run 600-700 mile loads and bump docks several times a week.
Snackbar is chillin'....at Shaffer
