New ones(idk how far back, though think 2018 trucks) are automatic. Come with an inverter, 1500watt I think. And a small fridge. At least freightliners. Not sure about internationals and kenworths.

All the trucks I have been assigned have had a Fridge and 1500 watt inverter. My 1st truck, which I had for a month, was a manual, every truck since has been auto.

Looks like it shuts down 5 minutes after any 2 minute & 40 second wait.

    That’s idiotic.

This voting to save a penny over safety is the same kind of thinking that made automatic transmissions at Crete mandatory, Just know this: it’s not going to stop. Ever. Make your decisions accordingly.

That's friggin insane...if it can't cool you down, it just shuts off....I am tempted to start getting pissed off and just rip all the a/c lines out of every office terminal I go thru...if it's under 80 degrees, open an office window and use a fan...if it's good enough for the people that generate revenue, it's good enough for the people that are a drain on that revenue.

Appearantly they have over hired and things aren't going to be as good for as long as they thought, so now they have to run some drivers off....o.k. I volunteer

This is my official recommendation to anyone who is thinking of working here...

Avoid this company like they were plague infested, Covid ridden lot lizzards.

And I apologize to anyone and everyone for any statements I made on the forum that lead you to believe that this company was in any way worthy of investing your time.

There seems to be a lot to consider when choosing a company, trucks and equipment are a biggy. I drove for Shaffer for 4 years. I left in 2009 when the 09 economy took a dive and Shaffer decided to park me in the North/East Region taking away my OTR privileges stating that, they were doing things differently due to the economic dive back then… I did more sitting then driving.

I left, started a small business and let my CDL expire. Now COVID has hampered my business to the point that I need to get back on the truck. I can’t find anything close to the income I was making except for driving OTR. It’s been 14years since I have driven last so it’s back to square one.

The things to consider are inward facing cameras (not happening) and auto over stick. I like driving a stick and not sure I would like driving an auto, but some seasonal drivers say that it’s a good thing. Fridges in trucks is a plus as well as an inverter. Mileage pay of course is a huge plus and Shaffer pays higher for a semi newbie like myself. Drop and hook obviously is another plus… I’ve seen where some companies offer 100% no touch freight which anyone would want. The problem with driving refer is the crazy hours for deliveries.

Shaffer wasn’t a bad company and they certainly had or have their ups and downs.

    Jarhed1964 Thanks this.
