I'm not trying to teach in busy lots and I don't allow my guy to hold up a customer. The shipping manager who complained about a 4 minute delay is the same guy who regularly makes us wait 30 minutes for paperwork.

I used to get compliments from customers and other drivers for how I was working with my guys. It just seems like I get more misdirected abuse these days.

In thr random thought category - cones are great. I can set up cones 11 feet wide and have a guy one shot it. Replace the cones and put a truck on either side and the same guy can't get into a 12 foot spot. I don't know what it is, but if you put an object next to the spot, guys struggle.

You can work with a guy for hours and days using cones and empty lots, but at the end of the day they’re going to be backing between trucks and into tight openings and that’s what they need to be proficient at. In the few times I’ve trained I only ever used cones for guys with literally no concept of backing because otherwise I see little to no improvement in their real world skills using them. If you happen to be one of those “pissed off drivers” when encountering a training situation, take a breather and recall times earlier in your career when you were less than proficient. And be thankful the trainer is actually doing his job, most don’t.

The problem is so many #### people are in such a hurry anymore they can’t take five minutes and let somebody back in because they believe the five minutes they let you back in it’s going to ruin their life... it’s like the moron to drive behind you when you’re backing up in a truckstop because they’re too #### impatient to wait a couple minutes for you to back into your hole

It is the brain reacting to consequences of the action. Like walking the length of a one foot wide board one foot above ground vs. same board 50 ft above ground. First case easy peasy; second case high pucker factor.

I guess so. Thankfully I’m a driver for a private fleet. I stop early enough to fuel and shower and go park at one of my drops. Don’t have to deal with the parking follies in the evening. I have no desire to run team ever again, much less train someone else to drive. Hats off to you for having the patients to do that. Snack bar, sorry about hijacking your forum! Lol

Found out the hard way yesterday that my EzPass for this new truck is inoperative...finally got loaded in the city of Chicago around 17:30. With my 14 ticking away, I rolled right into rush hour. 94 out of town was a fuster cluck...so I decided to take the Skyway. 1st EzPass gate, there were several drivers having issues, so I thought it was the system. 2nd gate, I had to remove my transponder from the little plastic enclosure and scan the barcode. Got to the main IN toll road entrance, and it spit out a ticket at the EzPass only lane. This a.m., got to the eastgate and had to pay $57 cash. Hit Ohio's toll road, and same issue. Spent 45 min with someone in Lincoln trying to figure out what was wrong. She finally said, just get a new one at the next terminal. Grrrrrrr. I am headed across OH, then I 80 to 81 to 84...no terminal within reach. So now, I have to max out my fuel card advance because another new piece of equipment is defective.

And this truck is horrible in the PA mountains. I added 45 min to my travel day with only 35,000 lbs. Plus the #####-box is now giving me daily red collision warnings for no reason...2 out of 3 today were on the wide open interstate with no bridges, signs or other vehicles around. If this keeps up, either my head will explode from sky high BP numbers...or the plastic enclosure around the guts of the system in the windshield will be in pieces, and I will remove one component at a time until it stops #####in at me.

These DT12 transmissions must not float gears. Last night, when backing in my parking spot at the Scranton Petro, the truck was real jumpy and jerky...and about the time I was most of the way in my spot, the clutch overheat warning hit...and you could smell burning clutch. Then, on the way from Scranton to Hartford this morning, shifts between 7-8-9, the rpms would jump 2-300 on upshifts, like it was slipping the clutch when releasing it as it picked up the throttle again... didn't do it in any other gears. My overall impression of this automated crap in these Cascadias....

But on the bright side, if this new Assurance system is the stepping stone to Freightliner's fully automated truck system...we won't see it for at least another 15 years because this system is stupid...and I mean it's processing ability, not my opinion about it.
