I'm willing to bet that driver doesn't get micromanged much. Nor has he ever threatened his manager.

You missed my point and that's okay. So 60 out of your 230 driver's made a good wage. Let me ask you this, how much out of pocket do you pay for all of your medical insurance? How much out of pocket did you have to contribute to your retirement? Do you get sick days, holidays and vacation? If so, how are you paid for these and what amount do you receive for each? And since you stay out for long periods of time, that cost money to eat. How much do you pay for food on a monthly basis or weekly basis? This all adds up to your bottom line. I look forward to your responce.

You seem to keep harping on wages. I think I make a good wage, just short of 60K this year. You probably think that's terrible, and that's fine. Might be terrible for you, but I'm happy with it, @kylefitzy seems happy with his wages, SSB is happy with his wages, and his job. What does it matter?

I have to call b.s. on that posted $122k paystub... that driver is making the same per mile as I do...I turned 120500 paid miles this calendar year and I grossed (counting vacation pay) just under $87k...in order to turn that kind of gross, the driver would have had to turn roughly 50% more miles than that...or close to 180k, that is averaging 15k miles a month, every month...seeing as how this check's miles were only 1783...me thinks there was some sort of payroll miscalculation or someone is good at photoshop.

I spend less per week eating on the road than I do sitting at home. He is a member of a company owned by Daseke...at most Daseke companies, basic health insurance for the driver is covered by the company at no cost. They don't have sick day pay, most companies, other than union positions, don't...vacation pay at most of Daseke's company's is paid based on your last 12 months earnings. And most Daseke companies pay for the major holidays (at Wy-Moore I think we got either $100 or $150 per day).

Our average wage for solo otr drivers who were here the whole year (71), not all 230 btw, was over 78k. Teams Averaged $85k, with 7 out of 22 drivers over $100k. Locals $72k, regional $68K, all well above industry standard. $8 for dental and $60 a month for health care, health care will be free next year, the company is picking that up. I personally maxed out my 401k at $19,500 and they matched an additional $4100. No Sick days or Holiday pay, not sure sick days would be very useful as an OTR driver anyway. vacation is 1250 a week, we get 1-3 weeks based on time over service. I cash mine out every year when its available.

I have zero idea what I spend on food, I have to eat no mater what I do. I cook in the truck for about half of my meals, just like I would at home.

Well, weekend/holiday staff doesn't know what a PTA is any more than the regular shift does. I had set my PTA for tomorrow morning at 9 because I want to check with Deland about my options here other than Shaffer, just to keep my health insurance coverage for the wife. But...first thing this morning, I get a preplan that picks up today at 18:00(live load) and delivers in Denver Tuesday afternoon (live unload)...the next message is the automated virtual PTA message (that is usually sent out before any preplan, but not this time). I decided to accept the load, even though it picked up only 2.5 hrs before the end of my 14, hoping that my good fortune was with the good half of the reviews on the place. Half said 'loaded early and fast', the other half were the exact opposite...'sat all day, and still not loaded'. Got there at 13:30, I was loaded and gone before 15:00...so I was in luck today.

Missouri must have gotten the bad side of this storm. Between Kingdom City and west scales by Higginsville there were a fair number of cars in the cable barrier, and most the signs had icicles hanging off of them and the trees had that icy shimmer. Plus the new Love's parking lot at exit 31 looks like it might have been polished with a Zamboni. If it weren't in the low teens, it would be down right slick.

@Lonesome that's the America we live in these days unfortunately, so many people, especially certain members of this forum, want to ride their high horse and shame everyone else as peasants who don't follow suit. I'm 38, a young man by most accounts, but I was raised on the values of do what makes you happy and do it to the best of your abilities. Kudos to you for finding something you're happy doing, @supersnackbar although I don't know the man from Adam, seems like a genuine hard working guy, maybe a little rough around the edges, but who are we as a society to judge? Mindsets like ours are becoming fewer and farther between these days, welcome to America as we know it moving forward..............Good times.

I don't claim to know what Shaffer's pay plan is, or how Shaffer's dispatch system works. I do know that most driver's at Schneider don't believe I make what I do, or attribute it to "being a trainer". Training doesn't make me money, all training pay does is make me whole for the miles I miss out on while giving my guys the time they need to learn the job.

I also know that my base rate of 52 cpm and bonus of 4 cpm is less than you make. I also know I only ran 105,000 miles this year. So how did I make $10,000 more than you did?

The answer is I know how my company works and I use that knowledge to get better runs for myself. If Ops asks me to work a weekend, I opt for coming home on Friday like normal and leaving out on Sunday as I know I'll be able to run a full day and set myself up for a good Monday. If I run Saturday, Ops is going to be more cautious on the dispatches to make sure I get home for my 34. I know when it' to my advantage to shut down early and show available in the morning and when it's better to show available with only a couple of hours left. I understand that having a 2,000 mile week with an average load length of under 150 miles is better than having a 3,000 mile week with an average length of haul of 500+ miles.

I'm not knocking you - you have your own style of running that works for you. However your style of running may not be "optimum" for how Shaffer's freight runs. But based off of the "six figure club" thread, there are an awful lot of us sitting at or near 6 figures, so believing a guy hit $122K is not a stretch.
