Unless they have me go over 100 miles it's always been free. Usually don't have to go far for a trailer and usually it's at the place they send you.
Only time I got paid was in California and deadheading 200 miles to get an empty.

On a load that delivers in Norfolk, NE tomorrow night. Have to wait until 1800 tonite to pick it up outside Bolingbrook, IL, which is good because the trailer needs washed out because it had a meat load, and coming from Chicago to Bolingbrook, there aren't too many washout options. I ended up going all the way to Joliet before finding one open. They offered me another JBS load to the Seattle area after this one, but it had to pu by 9am Thursday, and I can't do it. Besides, because of the Peoplenet foul-up of my 34 and that last messed up meat load, I get very few hours back tonight, Friday and Saturday. Not entirely sure I could make it to the delivery by 4 am Sunday...and to be honest, I couldn't care less about heading out there right now...I have had another frustrating day and just about had enough of pulling a 53' fridge/freezer around.
