I'm sitting at the J east of Indy. It is packed. I have to deliver SW of chitown but not gonna move til this storm moves on and they clean these roads up. Watching i70 and looks like everyone is moving slow. Weather shows storm moves on later tonight so by morning, it should be reasonably cleaned

Well another trailer where the tandem bar is stuck. At the expense of 15-30 min shop time to Crete I gained some knowledge here. You can have pressure pulling that bar and you can smack those pins to get the handle loose. Or, new thing I learned is that, at least with this trailer, it needs just the perfect amount of tension by pulling/reversing on it just the perfect amount with the trailer brakes set. Too hard or too easy and that bar is good as stuck. I hope I can do this at SuperValu this evening lol.

I delivered to walmart in temple this morning at 0330. Parked and when i woke up dispatch wanted me to run empty to sherman tx to pick up and come back down for 0330 tomorrow. Talked to someone that came from dallas and he said it was a 5hr trip and i had to pick up north of dallas. I said no ill wait this out. Hopefully roads are better tomorrow so i can go home

A 24oz claw hammer does wonders. When I was a Crete driver, I was waiting for my turn in the inspection bay, and needed to adjust my tandems. Back then, the Lincoln shop insisted that the tandem handle had to be mounted to the slider mechanism so that it was a solid pull instead of to the loop of the spring so it was a spring loaded release. After 10-15 min of rock the trailer, pull the handle, rock the trailer, pull the handle. I finally got sick of the fight and got out my hammer. The shop said, they heard a bang, saw a hammer come out from under the trailer then bang. Needless to say, it slid really easy. The shop said if they ever saw me abusing a trailer like that, they'd write me up...I tossed them my pen and told them to go ahead because if I have to hit the pins that hard to get them to release, they weren't doing their job maintaining the equipment properly.

Back when I pulled non air ride trailers without the air pin release button I would put vise grips on the bottom side in front of the handle, attach a bungee cord to the handle and the vise grips, pull tight and then rock back and forth. That worked every time with a stubborn pin. Helps to shoot wd40 on all the pins before you do this also.

I’ll have to update my bag of tools for sure. Surprisingly in my 2.5 years, only in the last month or two I’ve encountered 2-3 trailers that have issues sliding.

    JoeyJunk Thanks this.
