On one hand yes, it doesn't seem productive to deadhead out of a customer with loads ready, on the other there's so many factors at play, you don't know that any of those loads would work for you. Besides we get paid for deadhead miles so eh.

I come out of the house last Tuesday I live in the Houston area… Got the bananas in Galveston and clute and we got rich foods that we pick up at and what do they do they did had me 161 miles over to Shiner Texas… Evidently deadheading is not a problem for them right now contrary to what they say … I agree that is a waste of resources as well and they cannot complain about deadheading when they’re deadheading like they are

The purpose of my rant was...they piss and moan about the least little thing like truckstop scanning or idling a little too long, but yet will waste more with excess OOR miles than any of us do out here idling or truckstop scanning. I saved this company a bundle in towing charges when I managed to get my truck all the way across WY, dropped the load at a terminal and got it to a dealer for repairs, all without being able to disengage the clutch. And what thanks did I get? 1 day breakdown pay and then I was offered a choice of driving one of the oldest, crappiest daycabs in the fleet pulling Walmart loads to and thru Denver or forfit any pay. I certainly don't feel like a valuable asset, and from this point forward, until the day I leave I won't break one drop of sweat saving these greedy ######## one red cent.

Welcome to American capitalism! You're here to make the company money. Your wants and needs are irrelevant. Just make sure the corporate fat cats can buy that second house in the Hamptons.

The customer pays the d/h miles plus the truck gets better fuel mileage so it actually is more efficient on the profit side.

A couple of years ago, at Christmas, I got d/h from Wally in New Caney TX to Cargill Schuyler NE to get a load to Los Angeles. 903 miles. Asked AM about that and he told me we charge the customers ALL miles now instead of only loaded.

Another short run from dispatch even tho I have full 70. Picking up a preload out of the Americool facility at 11pm in Atlanta, GA for a next day drop at the Walmart DC in Washington Courts, OH.

Barely 500 mile run. I already know they going to send me a load to New Jersey. Cause everytime I empty in that area it's New Jersey, New Jersey, New Jersey.

I think your AM was talking out their ###. Perhaps with the exception of a dedicated account. Only company I have ever worked for that got paid deadhead miles was Moore, and only on their double drop glass trailers because it was a specialized piece of equipment. The van, single drop and flatbed trailers had the option of backhauling general freight to get back to the area of the glass plants, so they were excluded. And most customers don't pay per mile like we get paid.

There are times that a customer will pay for deadhead, but no way is all thevdeadhead charged back to each customer.

When a big company bids on a freight lane, they figure inn The average cost tondeadhead in, but not 900 miles. That's a one off deal. Odds are it had more to do with trying to balancevteailer pools than anything else. Happens a lot for us at Christmas time.
