Hello everyone, new to the forums and new to driving. Been behind the wheel 2 months and a half months including training. I have a few veterans in my real life that I ask advice but I’m always up for more opinions.
now here’s my dilemma:
The carrier I’m with I’m gracious that they took me in and gave me a chance. But gratitude doesn’t pay the bills. And after my 3rd week of making less than what I made in training I’m a little turned off by them. Drive time isn’t an issue because I squeeze as many miles in as I can get before my 10. It’s more so waiting for the loads to be dispatched lol.
So I’ve been offered an opportunity elsewhere. A small outfit, but they pay twice as much as I’m getting now upon delivery. The owner is willing to fly me out and everything. But it’s time sensitive, and I’m already loaded, at the receiver, and waiting on my DM to see if they’re opened or closed.
I already planned on returning the truck to my home terminal and turning in the key. But I guess my question is if the receiver is in fact closed. Would I get in trouble if I return everything? Loaded trailer and all?
Thank you in advance for any insight on the situation.
So I’m in a bit of a pickle

Returning the trailer loaded and all is just as bad as abandoning the load.
The new company will probably find out about it, unless they've already completed the background check.
How far are you from the home terminal?Another Canadian driver and Wanza336 Thank this. -
Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Don't take the load back , not right , put yourself in the owners shoes at the fuel price alone.
Another Canadian driver, Wanza336 and High Stepper Thank this. -
Deliver the load and hold up your end of the bargain. Then return the equipment and move on to the better company, don't worry about a notice. They wouldn't give you a notice if they decided to fire you.

agree with @High Stepper
Upon delivery tell them not to dispatch you, you’re going coming home/terminalAnother Canadian driver, High Stepper and Wanza336 Thank this. -
How do you know the 2nd job will pay what they SAY they will pay.

How can you trust people you never knew before?
Are you taking a leap of faith?
Almost everybody lies and cheats, one way or the other.drvrtech77 and Wanza336 Thank this. -
And my recruiter basically lied about everything just to get me in the door The only person that really kept it 100 with me was my trainer.
And yes I’m taking a leap of faith. I didn’t give up everything to get my license, to make what I made putting boxes on people’s doorsteps. Also I do understand that people lie and cheat. I’ve been real weary about smaller company fleets. Mainly as far as the company’s longevity. But if I can finish out my 6 months, I already have offers from larger stable companies. I just need the experience lol.Last edited: Jun 10, 2022
