I actually had an experience with a pretty nice dot in that area. Was Eb on 58 east of Kramer Junction. Dot was set up there and he waved me in. I had an air leak at the fitting going into the 4way on my tractor and he wrote it up and gave me a fix-it ticket. I tried to fix it but it was a pita to get too so I went to the TA in Barstow. Since I was leaving the state I called the local CHP office and asked them how I could get the ticket signed off. The lady I talked to called dispatch and they got in touch with the cop that gave me the ticket. He told them to tell me to stay there near the shop at the TA. About 15 minutes later he showed up, check out the truck, signed off the ticket and put at sticker on the truck. I thought that was a pretty decent thing for him to do.

The only issue I've ever had with California is carb and cheap freight. The freight rates just dont justify the extra costs of emissions. Especially not when i can make more just staying on my side of the country.

The regs and dot aren't any worse than many other states.

Y'all got some special reg's in FL also, iirc. Wife grew up there; we were gonna take the Pete there in Feb for her dad's funeral but couldn't get a load, and I was kinda worried about the red tape, anyway.

I don’t know why you all have a hard time with CHP’s.. there the best of the best. I run 65-70(Cali is 55 max)and never have an issue. When I run a step deck, I know as fact I’m over 70’ long with my 265 wheelbase and they never look twice at me nor do they look at my king pin or bridge length. So quit bad mouthing our public servants which we pay part of our taxes to. Now profiling is another subject...... there not to crazy about out of state trucks..... :p:rolleyes::D;)

I think its 41 ft to center of rear axle on trailers over 48. And an over all length of 75 when the kp setting is over 41. But they also give you 44k on a tandem instead of the federal 34k.

I got a cheap annual over length permit for when i do power only loads with longer trailers just to be safe but with the extra weight allowed i could probably slide the axles all the way forward and be good 99% of the time.
